The types of posters...

As a geek I prefer the geekier/nerdier type posters. I know more than enough alcohol guzzling youths in real life to want to meet more when I go on a Star Trek forum.

I like posts with humour in them, cheers me up during the day - nothing like a quick  to get you through a long day. There are quite a few posters who I find funny, and if I see their name on the thread I definitely look forward to reading them.

The good ol' ignoreds?

I think I fall into this category, but I'm trying to think of a better name for this sort of poster because I don't actually feel ignored but I'm not exactly the life and soul of a thread either, and I don't think I have much of a BBS personality. I'm not complaining mind you, it's my style - I don't share much and I don't have the time - or the attention span  - to get really involved in thread discussions. Usually one post in a thread is all I manage and often those are just a quick response to something someone else has said.

Anyway, all this blather (not one of my more succinct posts) is to say I think there needs to be a different name to describe those of us not in the spotlight.

And, you know, something that makes us sound cool :techman:

I like most of all those who make me laugh, and the cheeky ones (short of being vulgar), the clever ones, the cultured ones, the concise ones, the ones who parse quotes, those who actually read the thread, my friends, and... those who quote me or flatter me. :D
The benevolent mentors too. Anyone who doesn't think themselves superior though they may be.

*Edit* Come to think of it, I'm not systematically happy about being quoted because that's not always good. But I don't shy from arguments. Whoever addresses me gets a reply. (Unless it really deserves to be ignored, or if all has been said - or if I just stopped visiting the thread.)

Re: Types of poster...

What's your favourite type of poster? Who do you most look forward to reading...?

The alpha male/female?
The jock?
The tortured adolescent?
The confirmed bachelor?
The alcohol guzzling youth?
The wise old-timer?
The metrosexual geek?
The cool-as-cucumber at all times vulcan?
The cute librarian type?
The new kid on the block?

Help fill in the gaps of type I may have missed out while you're at it... :D

Dare I ask how I would classified? :shifty:

Re: Types of poster...

^ All of the above.

I don't care what she thinks I am, but I am curious who she was thinking about for each of those descriptors. ;)

The posters that stand out to me are the ones who have a sharp wit and the ones who can really dish out some intelligent discourse, whether those two things go together or not. I also really appreciate the genuine, honest, empathetic people. That said, I love everybody here. It just wouldn't be as fun without all of the cranks, the narcissists, and the eternally ignorant wads. :D

So am I.

Yes, it would be boring if we were all the same. Everybody needs a foil.
Sharp wits are definitely the best. (As in not surrendering to the shortcuts of getting a too easy laugh at somebody's unconsented expense without much foundation.)
And it is nice when we can tell people are being themselves.

Dare I ask how I would be classified? :shifty:

Big Apple night owl.
"Personalities" thread revival! (Not that I wish to see that one brought back from the dead.)

My favorites are the total lunatics. Like that guy who occasionally barges around QSF declaring that he runs this shit. :rommie:

It doesn't matter to me whether they are fake lunatics or real. With the best ones, you can't ever really tell...

Re: Types of poster...

I don't really come here for posters, but I suppose I like the type of poster who agrees with me, and since that hardly ever happens... I guess it makes for better discussion eh?
