The types of posters...

Thanks?

Seriously, though, it is true. It's honestly not my intent to engender such attention. I just like to play around, but if what you're saying is actually true (and I doubt it for the most part), I'd be a little embarrassed.

I don't think you should be embarrassed by the possibility that women find you attractive.

I'm trying to be as complimentary as possible, here, which is hard given that I hate you and am plotting your end. :p

Genuine modesty, or a little insecurity -- take your pick. :D

 That's more like it!

Thanks, though, for whatever it's worth. Now, let's let this thread get back on topic. :shifty:

For the record, pictures are not what made me Philo's friend.
He has a woman-like sensibility (for lack of a better word). That's the attraction. He's not vulgar or aggressive. He jokes a lot. Doesn't picks fights, stays out of bitter debates. He's wiser than me.
What's that called? Peaceful type? Cautious?

^In my experience, 99.9% of users don't "pick fights", they have fights picked for them instead.

It does take two to tango, however. So even if the poster doesn't "pick the fight", they do chose to take the bait and respond.

Often it starts off perfectly innocently. Someone asks a question about something someone has said, another person answers, but then they "don't understand" or they choose to misinterpret the answer, which brings another answer and another "misinterpretation" and around and around it goes until the person answering the questions gets a ticking off for derailing the thread. They haven't done anything wrong but they get the blame anyway.

I see that all the time here and on other forums.

Then there are replies which don't make sense designed to draw a response. Can't think where I've seen one of those today...

One word for you: escalation. It has a life of its own. Somehow, it's no one's fault in particular. Blame is always shared. It gets ugly when no one claims theirs.

What is sad is also when one of the belligerants wants to wave a white flag and do a little diplomacy and take their share of resposibility but the opponent locked themselves in and drew the blinds after throwing a bomb.

"99.9%" + "0.1%" = Cuban missile crisis.

Sometimes there is little more to be said. When someone has a preset opinion of another person, it is not worth that person's time or effort to try to change it.

My preset opinions are positive but they can get tainted through reading. Although it might be that our words exceed our meaning. It is easy to misinterpret. And also, to take lazy shortcuts. My tongue is sharp though in thought, I give people the benefit of the doubt.

Ladies ladies...no need to air your grievances in public! Do it in private and videotape it.

OH! Add pudding. Lots and lots of pudding.

Diplomacy can't always happen behind closed doors. I wish it could, though.
And you're not getting a tape whichever way it goes. :p

Come to think of it, in real life, they say diplomacy is nothing but lying. I don't think I could be a diplomat.
Understatement of the year.

Diplomacy is the art of saying 'nice dog' until you find a big enough rock.

"Diplomacy is thinking twice before saying nothing."

Although I've always preferred:

"Diplomacy is the art of letting someone have your way.”

Where is the Fundamentalist?

Whatever the subject, a site will have it's share of fundamentalists who claim to know the true path to wisdom about subject X - if you don't follow their wisdom, you can't be a "true" fan.

Surely we don't have any of those.
