The Trek Anthology I Would Like To See

^ The acclaim of your peers. And me being impressed.

Sorry, we're on a budget....

Why am I suddenly reminded of Rule of Acquisition #109? :p

Well, in light of Q&A being enjoyable thus far, I'll condescend to be magnanimous. :vulcan:

That's quite possibly my favorite Rule, actually. ("Dignity and an empty sack is the worth a sack.")

You're too kind.....

I'd like to see something like Star Trek: Family, which would focus not on the members of Starfleet, but on the families they left behind. Picard, Kirk, and co may get name-dropped, but it wouldn't be about them, each story would focus on the family (relatives, friends, etc) of those in the service. There's loads of story possibilities there ... the cadet home during break, the mother discovering that the son she thought she'd lost had managed to survive and their reunification 30 years later, etc.

So none of these stories will be related to the MU's seen on TV then??? Or the MU books???
Not as such, no, they're going to be six different takes on the Trek universe where something happened differently -- e.g., the Enterprise failed to defeat the Borg at Earth in "The Best of Both Worlds Part 2." (That isn't actually one of the stories, but it's a good example.)

Not to the Mirror Universe, but my installment does allude to aspects of another alternate timeline we've seen in TV Trek -- although it doesn't actually happen in that timeline.

I really don't see the point behind that. Why, when there are so many gaps in the history and new concepts to plumb, would we want to devote an anthology to the people who are not out there having adventures and making discoveries?

^agreed. sounds fairly dull, honestly. And needn't be star trek related, you can get any number of books involving family members left behind when soldiers go to war...

There can be good stories told from that perspective in the Trek universe. KRAD's story in Distant Shores is a perfect example. However, a whole book like that would get a little tedious.

Agreed. It could work as an occaisional side story, or maybe one story in an anthology, but I don't see it being interesting enough for a whole book.

Another few ideas:

A Pre-TNG anthology- Riker, Worf, Crusher, Data, Yar, LaForge on the ships they served on prior to the 1701-D.

A Pre-Voyager anthology- Janeways' first command, Tuvok, Paris, Chakotay, Carey, maybe a few others in their times before Voyager. Take "Pathways" into account.

A Pre-DS9 anthology- Sisko on the Okinamwa and Saratoga, Kira in the Resistance, Dax, O'Brien, Bashir, etc. before "Emissary".

An IDW Alien Spotlight-like anthology giving a glimpse at different races- Tellarite, Vulcan, Rigellian, Klingon, Romulan, Bolian. The list goes on and on.

A "Starfleet" anthology- Starfleet Command, Starfleet Medical, Starfleet Intelligence (Admiral Uhura?), Section 31, Corps of Engineers (Scotty?), a random Starbase.

^ Actually we should be getting two of those things in the future: there is supposed to be a Sisko-Okinawa-Tzenkethi War LE book eventually, and we should see Kira in the Resistance in the Terok Nor books.
As for the others, I think I would go for the Pre-TNG and Pre-VGR anthologies myself. Although that is the kind of stuff we could simply get as flashbacks in new novels instead of a whole anthology.
