The Trek Anthology I Would Like To See

Another Voyager anthology- all post-Endgame, bringing the story foreward to the 2380 timeperiod, filling in the time before the Destiny trilogy.
Considering the recent output, I would prefer this to continuing with Christie Golden's post-finale fiction. To the same extent, there's almost a temptation to have this done with DS9 as well in order to bring it up to date.

My biggest wish: An anthology set from 2161 to 2250- Or a miniseries. That's a goldmine!
The other Lost Era! I imagine I'd rather see this fleshed out as a mini-series. We're already getting the Romulan War with Kobayashi Maru, but a founding of the Federation book and a Robert April book, with a couple of epic tales in between, would all be fantastic.

Another TOS anthology- with a few April stories, a few Pike stories, a few second five-year-mission stories, and a few Enterprise-A stories. Or a miniseries dealing with any of these timeperiods.

A Lost Era anthology- Excelsior, Enterprise-B, Enterprise-C, Stargazer, etc. Or a Enterprise-B and Enterprise-C series or miniseries.

Another Voyager anthology- all post-Endgame, bringing the story foreward to the 2380 timeperiod, filling in the time before the Destiny trilogy.

An Enterprise anthology- I'm sure we'll get this one eventually.

I would definitely read any of these. :bolian:

What I would love to see is "No Limits II"! I am sure, there is more than enough material for more NF short stories.

Otherwise, I am more in favour of anthologies with a topic instead of one focusing on a specific series because this would also give series like Vanguard and Titan a chance to be part of it.

Topics that could also be anthologies I would like to see are definitely Section 31 and one dealing with Starfleet Medical.

Those are fantastic ideas, Ryan ... I would buy every one of those books. (Granted I buy them all at the moment anyway...)

I think it would be nice to see an Enterprise Anthology at least. That series has not gotten very many books at all. Plus it sucks that IDW won't probably be making any comics either, since well no one has made any comics for the series period. I remember when WS had the license there was talk of doing a comic but that never happened.

^ In the case of IDW, right now their license only covers TOS and TNG.

In the case of WildStorm, their license expired and they declined to renew it in 2001, so they really couldn't have done Enterprise comics. :)

They don't have to rights to the whole franchise? I always though that when you got a liscense for something like Star Trek (or Star Wars, Doctor Who, ect.) you bought it for the whole series.

Now does that mean that they won't be able to include anything at all from the other series, like the Dominion or Admiral Janeway, or just that they can't do entire comics based solely on that series? Does that also mean another company could come along and get the license for the other series?

Agreed, I'd jump on board for any of these, as well as the ones suggested that would bring DS9 and VGR up to date with the TNG/TTN/NF timeline. Though I'd appreciate it if first, we'd get the current storylines in DS9 completed first. But after that.. bring on the anthology.. I'm still waiting for a good Bashir/O'Brien story at some point in the near future that is part of the DS9r.

Dr Phlox (of ENT) made a cameo in flashback during IDW's "Klingons: Blood Will Tell" mini-series, so no problem with brief appearances. It's the main setting of the comics that gets licensed.

Does that also mean another company could come along and get the license for the other series?

Depends on the various licensing deals that are set up. The TokyoPop manga Trek volumes have been coming out simultaneously with IDW's material.

Way back during DC Comics' second ST license (for TOS and TNG) was still current, Malibu Graphics won the DS9 comic license - catching DC with its pants down, but the two companies even worked out a crossover mini-series. While Malibu was angling to get the new VOY series as well, Marvel bought out Malibu, and then ended up with an all-encompassing license as Marvel/Paramount Comics.

...which was, creatively, almost the last gasp of Star Trek as a comics franchise. I'll give the Wildstorm run credit for getting a New Frontier comic out there, but nothing's come close to Marvel's Early Voyages or Starfleet Academy books.

Nope. Not all licenses are created that way. Besides Ian's example of a different company getting DS9 back in the day, there's also Marvel's license -- when I was doing those books for Byron Preiss, there were only certain characters that we were allowed to use as the star of a book. That's true for Pocket's current license, as well.

And back when Marvel first had the Trek comics license after TMP, they were only licensed to use ideas that either came from the movie itself or were original to the comics; they actually weren't allowed to bring back characters or plotlines from the original series. Although they did manage to sneak a few TOS references past the licensing people.

A mix of what if? stories.
What if Riker not Sisko took command of DS9 ?
What if the Organians had not interfered?
What if Tom Riker had not been stopped?
What if Khan had beaten Kirk?

Already being done. The Myriad Universes duology coming out next July-August. Six short novels, each set in a different alternate timeline.

^ Yes. Book 1: Infinity's Prism will be out in July and include short novels by Christopher, as well as William Leisner, and James Swallow.

Book 2: Echoes and Refractions will arrive in August, and feature short novels by Chris Roberson, Geoff Trowbridge, and some crap hack named DeCandido. ;)

Mine will take place in the alternate universe where Ringo is a really really good drummer.....

* sits back and waits to see who gets the reference *
