Yar was a regular. Landry was a redshirt.![]()
Given that the Chief of Security Ellen Landry died, it didn't seem like they made a big deal about it. It also seemed rather random, unexpected and pointless.
Compared to this Chief of Security that died in TNG also in their first season.

So like all Star Trek shows? All sorts of people died in Star Trek. That's were the redshirt myth comes from.I'm wondering if they'll take a GoT/Walking Dead approach to death in this series. Just keep killing off people left and right, not make a huge deal about it, and replace them.

GoT makes a pretty big deal about character deaths. A lot them are what drives many of the plots and actions of the characters. Who have they replaced?
No, other than holding the same position, Landry is not like Yar,Worf, Tuvok and Odo. Landry is like Tormonlen, Tomlinson or Mitchell. Guest stars who wind up dead. You might note that Tormolin and Mitchell were bridge officers. So that doesn't grant one immunity.I'm referring to bridge crew not random security people. She was chief of security like Worf, Tuvok, Odo. They also killed off Captain Philippa Georgiou
I don't think you've watched the show.GoT has a much less regard for life compared to previous star trek series. They killed off people all the time for shock value then new characters are introduced in the next season otherwise they'd run out of people to kill.
Looks like you assumed wrong.Killing off main characters didn't happen often in prior trek series. Ellen Landry was in multiple episodes and they were giving her screen time. I was assuming she'd be a main character until she wasn't
Prior trek series wouldn't have wasted time and killed off a commander like that. Maybe they're going to do the "killing people off" gimmick in this series too. Time will tellLooks like you assumed wrong.
Did they mention it outside of that episode? Honest question, I don't remember.Given that the Chief of Security Ellen Landry died, it didn't seem like they made a big deal about it.
As was Tasha's.It also seemed rather random, unexpected and pointless.

If you're talking Star Trek - in TOS there was plenty of meaningless random redshirt death (at least 1 to 3 a week). As for Landry in ST: D - IDK, she obviously thought the sedative worked - and was wanting (for whatever reason to push Burnham to just do what Lorca ordered and not do a full study of the creature. She definitely had anger issues but her death was more due to overconfidence and believing the creature would be affected by sedatives on board. Again, it's the TOS era so random Red..er Copper-strip deaths are expected.![]()

Space is disease and danger wrapped in darkness and silence. I definitely want the "nobody is safe" approach.I'm wondering if they'll take a GoT/Walking Dead approach to death in this series. Just keep killing off people left and right, not make a huge deal about it, and replace them.
2 episodes...........barely qualifies for "multiple".Ellen Landry was in multiple episodes and they were giving her screen time. I was assuming she'd be a main character until she wasn't
