The title of the new series

I never had a problem with Enterprise being just "Enterprise," but I guess I'm the only one.

I never did either, but that's because I'm a hardcore fan and to me it doesn't matter if Star Trek is in the title or not, I'll still know about it. I think the people promoting the show thought that maybe regular people weren't watching the show because it didn't have the brand name attached to it, so they added it back on. In actuality, I don't think that was the problem.

I mean, do people not know that Gotham is about the world of Batman? Does that show's ratings suffer because it's not called Batman: Gotham (regardless of if that even makes any sense given the lack of Batman)? I'm guessing it doesn't make a difference, especially in this day and age.

When Enterprise hit the stage, people weren't as tuned in to entertainment media and the internet as they are now. If they missed it, it's because it didn't show up in their newspaper. People aren't going to miss it if it were called Starfleet or some other such thing. People didn't miss Better Call Saul because it wasn't called Breaking Badder: Better Call Saul.

Picard and Data are just as much "Star Trek" to me as Kirk and Spock, if not more given who I grew up with.

That's fine. I'm not saying Picard, Sisko, Janeway, or Archer aren't Star Trek, just that they aren't the embodiment of it. They're spin-offs. The 2009 movie wasn't.

At the moment, I can't think of any spin-offs that just used the same name as the original. They always add or change something, even in today's age. It's not very likely to just be "Star Trek."

They should borrow from the superhero genre.

Star Trek Forever.
Star Trek Begins.
The Dark Star Trek.
Star Trek Rises.
Star Trek Assembles.
The Amazing Star Trek.
Star Trek: Age of [fill in the blank].
Star Trek: Apocalypse.

Or, if it's another reboot, go with what everyone else uses for prequels these days and call it "Star Trek: Year One."

Simply 'Star Trek' or 'Trek' would make sense.

Without an idea of the premise or ship name, there is nothing to really nail down a possible alternative. That doesn't keep me from throwing out a few, though.

Star Trek: 2480 (or whatever year it is set)
These are the Voyages (With or without Star Trek at the beginning)
Star Trek: The Series (Totally tongue in cheek because that would suck if they did use that)

I actually like the sound of "Star Trek Forever" - might be a better movie title, however.

Oh, I know. But do you really think a 23 year old, who was 11 when Enterprise was canceled and 5 when BermanTrek was on cares?

Star Trek. Short. Simple. No need to differentiate. No one is going to confuse this with TOS.

No bloody colons.

Star Trekkin'
Star Trek: New Horizon
Star Trek Wars
Star Trek Away From Darkness
Star Trek: Border Service
Star Trek: The Musical
Star Trek: Frontiers
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - The Continuing Mission

It has to be either "Space Trek" or "Star Track."

The second title would be if the series is about Starfleet Academy's track and field team.

Star Trek: DSV

Followed by the short-lived Star Trek 2032, no doubt.

Does it have to be first?

What about "Best ever Star Trek" or "Star Trek streaming"?

I hope it's called something like Federation and deals with larger-scale worldbuilding, politics, diplomacy, ongoing plot threads and developing a richly detailed world with a large ensemble cast of characters in a variety of environments and situations.

It really depends on what the premise of the show is. They could make it something like "To Boldly Go," but without context of what it's about, that's pretty pointless. And there is the issue of how Enterprise was handled.
I don't want that but I like it in the Man of Steel/The Dark Knight kinda way. I was trying to figure out what the Trek equivalent to those would be.

I never had a problem with Enterprise being just "Enterprise," but I guess I'm the only one.

Yeah me either but I can see it rubbing people the wrong way. But I like it in the style of how Smallville, Gotham or Caprica, regardless of what you might think of these series, have their own identities.

No bloody colons.

Again, I'm left wondering what's wrong with colons. There are dozens of spin-offs in the last few years that have used them or other subtitle methods. Those that haven't used them have either done a play on words of the original, or just completely renamed it. But none of them ever keep the same name. I wouldn't expect that out of this or any spin-off TV series.

I get this feeling that some people think that colons or numbers are part of some antiquated system and that the only way to be modern or cool is by trying your hardest not to use them, even though the result may seem odd, like Star Trek Into Darkness. Yet there are plenty of things like Avengers: Age of Ultron or Iron Man 3 that seemingly contradict this line of thinking. I guess it's nice to try and be different, as long as it doesn't sound stupid just for the sake of being edgy.

And last but not least, the show is going to be there on a list right next to the other Star Trek shows. Yeah, it will have a different icon, but they are probably going to want to make them textually distinct as well to avoid any confusion, even if it's only a small amount.

I also don't think it matters what younger people's perceptions are or were for a variety of reasons. One being that those who are too young to remember Enterprise or Star Trek in general, don't really make up that big of a portion of the streaming viewing audience. The average age of a subscriber of other services like Netflix is in their early 40s. With All Access' content, I bet their average age skews even higher. I'm sure they'd like to have younger viewers, hence the move to streaming, which has a younger audience than network TV. But I don't think this show is going to be made with the <24 audience strictly in mind. It's going to be made in mind first and foremost with what the majority of the audience knows, and especially those who have a disposable income.

Perhaps here's something to think about... Even though the spin-offs are referred to as "Star Trek: The Next Generation," "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," "Star Trek: Voyager," and "Star Trek: Enterprise," when their titles actually appear on screen, there is no colon.

;)

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine-The Next Generation :D

Star Trek: (insert name of ship or space station the show is set on)

Or how about change the name of the whole franchise to "Star Journey", sounds less geeky. :D Just kidding. :)
