The Time Agents? River Song?

I would love to see more about this organization and how they know of the doctor and time lords..

1. Jack knew how to wire an extrapolation shield to the Tardis (a ship he never saw before)

2. The Ship that Jack stole was once a ship owned by another Time Agent.. Was that ship originally River Song's Ship?

3. River Song had a Time Watch too..and knew how to use it.

4. did river give the secret of time travel to the time agency in exchange for her freedom?

there are some interesting things about Jack and his connection to river song, the doctor, and his seemingly intense knowledge of futuristic cultures, and technology..in the 1st season he took much of the universe in stride.. almost like to him, he had some advanced knowledge..maybe we will see more on the time agency, and what may have happened between jack and River that ended up with him possibly stealing her ship... and or if River was indeed a time agent, maybe the new torchwood series 4 will touch on this theory, who knows, but bread crumbs seem to be falling quite frequently about River's past, and for some reason, I feel like the Time agency is something she is very involved with..and for some reason I feel like she has imparted knowledge gained by her involvement with the Doctor.??

And Scotty could wire in a stolen Romulan cloaking device and then handle a stolen Klingon Bird of Prey. And since several others have been able to pilot the Tardis, to varying degrees of success, it's safe to assume that the technology isn't entirely dissimilar to that of other species.

2. The Ship that Jack stole was once a ship owned by another Time Agent.. Was that ship originally River Song's Ship?

It was a Chula warship, as already stated and it's really reaching to think it was River Song's when that episode was made a couple years before River Song's character was created.

3. River Song had a Time Watch too..and knew how to use it.

As already stated, she didn't have a Vortex Manipulator until she bought one. And again, it's safe to assume that there are certain standards in technology and people will know how to use various devices when they're part of a galaxy where advanced technology and space and time travel is commonplace.

4. did river give the secret of time travel to the time agency in exchange for her freedom?

That's really reaching. Plenty of species have developed time travel independently of each other. And, if memory serves, Time Agents were first mentioned in the classic series, in The Talons of Weng-Chiang.

I haven't seen any evidence of any connection between Jack and River Song. They've never even met on screen, though it's probably a safe assumption they've heard of each other since they're both fairly "big players" in the galaxy and River certainly knows quite a bit about the Doctor's various companions.

As for Jack taking the universe in stride, he's from the 51st first century, he's not from the earth and as DW shows, there's a vast galactic community out there with all sorts of species flitting about through space and time. We're earthbound and unaware of any alien races. Jack isn't.

As for TW, that's RTD's show. River Song is SM's character and he's already said who and what she is will be revealed in Series 6. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for her to show up in TW.

While I'd also enjoy learning about the Time Agency and look forward to the big reveal about River Song, and while it's always fun to speculate, the connections you're seeking to make just aren't supported.

The Chula ship could not time travel on its own. Jack used his Vortex Manipulator to make it time travel.

excellent, there are so many knowledgeable people here who pay attention to things, and I am glad to have such a cool group who can answer questions right off the bat! bravo!

I wouldn't mind finding out that River was, in fact, a time agent.

Depends on how/if they explore her back-story "prior" to her meeting the Doctor.

Definitely feels like there's a hell of a lot more to her than we've seen.

Does anyone know how much of Captain Jack's original characterization is RTD and how much is Moffat, seeing as how Moffat wrote the episodes that introduced Jack, but it was during the RTD era, and I believe (though could be wrong), RTD had already planned for Jack to move over to Torchwood.

On one hand, I like the "Grand Unified Theory" approach and would love for River and Jack to have some history (no, not that kind of history, well, okay, maybe some of that kind of history) together. Especially since it's obvious that River is an important part of the Doctor's life and Jack has proven to be an important part, as well.

On the other hand, RTD seemed to favor that approach and it would be nice to see some DW characters stand on their own without being forced to be paired with each other (the most egregious of which, in my opinion, is marrying off Mickey Smith and Martha Jones).

As for River and the Time Agents, with her history, it wouldn't surprise me to see that she has had dealings with them before. Which, agains begs the question, is the Time Agency something RTD planned for or was that Moffat? If it's the latter, then I could definitely see the Time Agency coming into play again, especially if Torchwood isn't going to use them.

Jeffrey was a whiny little brat that needed a good slap. Bogg was cool. Not that good with history but the women all seemed to like him.

Why didn't the Timelords stop their time traveling earlier? Remember in the original series the Timelords kept strict control over who was allowed to have time travel capability? I remember a serial in fact where some alien was about to invent it, and the Doctor was sent there or something to stop them. Why did the Timelords allow the Time Agents to exist using time travel?

The whole thing with the timelords existing in all time periods or being wiped from existence and the time-locked time-war aside, maybe they didn't exist by the 51st century.

Though Jack knew about them, so I'm really just confused on this whole thing.

I'm assuming that Jack knew about them through the legends and historical records that would have remained behind on various worlds and time periods. I think it's discussed a little in the commentary for "The Empty Child" by Moffat regarding the origins of the character.

Hell when the first part of the library 2 parter came out I suspected she might be Jack (hey if he can become a head he can become a woman!)

And he was pregnant once (well, twice). If we'll all remember "Unexpected," though, there are fewer prerequisites to that than one might imagine.

Jack and River are the same character. Everything she says could have just as easily come out of his mouth. God, she even made a "I once dated a..." joke.

Whenever somebody goes on about what an amazing character River is, I can't help thinking that she's just Jack as a woman. A touch repetitive on Moff's part, IMO.
