I don't subscribe to the theory that Jack and River are the same character. I think that's much to simple and since we came up with it in the first place it will most likely be proven wrong. I'd so love an episode next series that features both of them in the same episode. That would probably drive the River haters insane.

Moffat states in the audio commentary a bit for the "The Empty Child" that RTD created Jack and that he got to write and play a bit around with the character. In fact he jokes around with John in the commentary track regarding this (I can't remember now what was said).
^Could that be where "Captain Beefcake" came from?
Honestly I don't remember now...it's been a few months since I listened to the audio commentary.
