It's really not that hard. People make it too hard because PICARD is god.
YES, please, get away from that trap. Trek is moribund and nothing is changing.

I was underwhelmed by both; I feel no desire to rewatch them.

While I like what he's done so far, and do want something continuing the story of the 25th century, I don't think I could sign a petition ever talking about Gene Roddenberry's vision. That has no value to me whatsoever.

SNW didn’t need no petition. A spin-off was obvious the moment Number One ate a burger.

Star Trek fans are effusively praising his work. I'd be confused too if I were him.

He and his writers have done a fine job on Picard season 3 so far. Not ready to suggest it’s the best season out there. We’re not even halfway done and I do have some issues. But the deification of Terry Matalas is a little much. I imagine that’s perplexing in itself for him.

Terry has done interviews with the people that started that campaign, so he's likely aware of it, and seems quite knowledgeable of the fandom's broken base.

Is he prepared to accept godhood to manage the broken base? :wtf::vulcan:

Sigh. Having different interests within a fandom does not make for a broken base. We are not a monolith.

Indeed. The base needs to not be treated as a large conglomerate that needs unity. Star Trek endorsed a future were differences are celebrated. Where's that attitude in fandom?

Back in the day, people were fans of say Ronald D Moore, Ira Steven Behr, Rene Echevarria, Michael Taylor, or Manny Coto. I don't see why being a fan of the work of Terry Matalas should be any different. This isn't putting him on a pedestal, or deifying him, just saying his work stands out above certain others... especially for those that haven't enjoyed any of the other live action NuTrek output between 2009-2023. And it's a major olive branch to say that the NuTrek output up till 2023 didn't offer all the flavors of Star Trek, and that he aspired that his season would appeal to everyone (in contrast to Michael Chabon's infamous Variety interview).

I checked out NEXT because Manny Coto was involved, but it wasn't for me. Right now I'm trying out TURN: WASHINGTON'S SPIES because Michael Taylor was involved. I want to try out FOR ALL MANKIND, because Ronald D Moore and Joe Menosky are involved. Kenneth Biller did a TNT show called PERCEPTION. Was largely indifferent to his VGR work, so not a priority for me to ever check out. And, if I see Michael Chabon or Michelle Paradise are credited as involved in a future show that I might have otherwise checked out, I'd actively avoid it.

The language of "saving Trek" is what makes it stand out. It makes him sound like he is the only one to keep Trek on course. Yes, the "deification" is a bit tongue in cheek, but it's how the attitude comes across, especially online.

Language like this, from the petition linked in OP, makes me pause significantly:
Only one man can save this, eh? Sounds a bit savior, messiah, and dare I say, deification, to me.
