the TENTH time

The only Imax anywhere me is at an aquarium - they show 40-minute documentaries about undersea ecosystems. I saw one once on a school trip in 5th or 6th grade.

But appearantly, starting tomorrow night, they're also going to be showing Star Trek!

Jaw hits floor...

And they've never shown another "mainstream" movie?

so... uh... you're gonna go watch, right? ;)
I am, though I had to think about it for a minute. I've seen the movie in Imax once - I made the trip to the nearest commercial Imax theater, about 2-3 hours away, and the trip was decidedly not worth it. "That's it?" would succinctly describe my reaction to the whole thing. I've seen some discussion on how some theaters that call themselves Imax are really, really crap Imax; I guess I went to one of them.

But I was planning on catching the movie again this weekend anyway (#11), and the aquarium does have a really nice theater, with a truly giant screen, not just a somewhat-oversized screen. Or at least they did twenty years ago. Or at least it seemed that way to a ten-year-old.

So, I'm not really sure what to expect. But I'm going to check it out.

I'm not sure - their website is promoting Star Trek as the kick-off of their "Nighttime Hollywood" summer schedule - i.e. they show their regular documentaries during the day when the aquarium is open, and then run movies at night - with Night at the Museum, Transformers, and Harry Potter coming later in the summer. They may have done this previous summers and I just didn't know about it, but this is the first I've heard of them running regular Hollywood movies.

Our IMAX also runs documentaries during the day; there's an education emphasis aimed at teachers, so I have to think school classes are bussed there sometimes.

I went with my jr-high aged daughter to IMAX. We saw a documentary on Volcanos which was...well..incredible. Some great images taken from the Space Station at these Volcanos. The footage, which wraps around this particular IMAX screen, makes it seem you are there. I got sea sick!!!

I just read where Star Wars, not sure which one, is coming to the local concave IMAX...that will be cool!!

Oh..I now stand at 16 times. I want to make it to the 20 barrier (20 times seeing Star Trek) but I may be running out of time!!! I need to try INVERSE PHASING!

Robert, back years ago we saw that storm-chaser tornado production at the Museum of Science and Industry's real IMAX, and it made me green around the gills. Not the movie, but the real IMAX.

I closed out our multiplex IMAX with visit #19 on Tuesday. I would be willing to go back, if by some miracle Star Trek returns; but I'm not holding my breath. The movie is also gone from the two regular cinemas we use around here, so we will have to drive a couple more miles to see #20 on Saturday. I really want to at least make it an even 20 times before the show leaves the area.

Seventeen times?

No way. I've seen it three times.

Any more and I'll spoil my DVD viewings. Fair play to yer, but I just couldn't watch a movie that many times at the cinema.
