The Teaser Trailer has arrived!!

Since we are now talking trailers (fan created) I came across this on YouTube. It is about 2 minutes too long at a total of 3 minutes. It should have ended at 1:15.

I agree. The scenes of past TOS episodes and movies reflected on the E reminded me of the teaser trailer of Revenge Of the Sith with old Obi Wan from A New Hope lamenting about the fall of the Jedi and the rise of the Empire. A nice nod to the past.
Well, guys, that trailer isn't "all new" or "fan-created." The scenes of old episodes superimposed onto the Enterprise was, I believe, from a theatrical trailer advertising the 25th, or was it the 30th, anniversary of Star Trek. I remember seeing that on the screen during previews, and I'm pretty sure it's on one of my DVDs, too.

What's "fan created" in that YouTube video is the latter stuff, after the "projected on the Enterprise" bit is done. And as far as I know, that might be ripped from something else, too... I just don't happen to RECOGNIZE that part.

Nice fan made trailer.

Although i expect the official trailer will be along the lines of......the camera zooming into a planet all the way down to Nimoy's face, the camera will hold in front of Nimoy for a few seconds while he utters the words "Fascinating" only for the camera to slowly go over his left shoulder to revel Shatner pushing the rocks away from his rock grave and climbing out uttering the words "I'm back Baby"....

Oh you know its coming....

It would be cool if Spock stopped by Veridian III while time-travelling and picked up Kirk to help him. That would leave Picard alone so Soran can finish kicking Picard's ass. :)

Yes, thats what I'm talking about....

If the bald headed idiot had gone to the missile launcher the first time while kirk was kicking Sorans ass we would not be in the predicament... :brickwall:

Re: Teaser Trailer Debunked!

I envisioned something like what Vektor describes, and although it would be cool, I don't think (and sort of hope) they don't reveal *that much* of the Grey Lady in this hella-early teaser.

Well, I like Vektor's idea, from a fannish standpoint.

But for "general audiences" I can't see them doing anything but snoring.

Now... I can imagine using something like this as a FRAMING device for the trailer. The thing is, to get "normal people" (aka "non-trek-fans") interested, you need to show PEOPLE doing interesting things.

So I see images of Chris Pine in some form of interaction with a strong female character (Carol Marcus, I hope!). I see the members of a tribunal, in formal dress uniforms (not the same as what we saw in TOS, mind you!) reading off charges, and Pine's face being shown reacting.

I see a combat sequence, showing the Christopher Pike character in a smokey, obscured set, yelling orders to a dark-haired female officer (no exteriors, mind you).

All of this might be interspersed with shots much like Vektor describes... though less of a "continuous pull-back" and more of a series of shots (what he described would be VERY expensive and manpower-intensive, I think!), but still accomplishing what he suggests - ie, starting with structural framing, and progressing 'til you finally see the curve of the primary hull with the "USS Enterprise" and some portion of the "NCC-1701" visible (gotta be the "Enterprise" part because many audience members won't recognize 1701 as meaning anything, but everyone will recognize the "Enterprise" bit).

The final few frames would show Nimoy, turning to face the camera, giving the Vulcan salute... and dissolving into Quinto in the same pose and expression, though a different setting.

All of this would have a voice-over... starting off talking about "how legends are born" and all sorts of generic talk intended to get the audience excited... and ending up with something (over the "dissolve") about seeing "how it all began."

I really think that would draw in the audiences. Let them know it's some form of Sci-fi... MAYBE... but downplay that, even. Play up the conflict and the "adventure" side... all the human stuff. Only let the audience know it's on the TOS Enterprise, then. Then let them know for sure it's Star Trek, but in the "past" of Star Trek, by doing the dissolve from Nimoy to Quinto.

That will get a STRONG reaction from everybody. Not just the "Trekkies."

Temis, forgive me for being blunt, but I'm gonna call it.

That's pretty rude.

I know Germans and they are extremely bothered by being called "nazi" just because they're German.

Someone from Germany is a German. And the website where this fan-trailer was posted is a German site.

Some respect is due.

Count me in. I'm German, part of my family fought in the war, part was Jewish and murdered by the Nazis. Everybody hates the Nazis here. So though I suppose she meant no harm, it is really, really offensive... like if we called all Americans stupid and fat (which is not true, of course. I'm a great fan of the US).

I can see where you guys are coming, but I don't think any harm was meant. It sounded to me like a TOS reference to the litteral Nazi planet from the episode "Patterns of Force."

I can't see how that would change the matter. She'd still equate the German language with the Nazis. And as a german I somehow don't find that very nice. I am certainly no Nazi.

^^ maybe she was refering to that Futurama joke where Germany's name was changed to: "the country from the nazi episode"?

Re: Teaser Trailer Debunked!

I like your idea too, Cary L. Brown. But didn't Trekmovie.com say there would be no Trek actors seen in the Teaser? Perhaps some of your ideas could be incorporated into the real trailer. Could this film warrant a teaser plus two full trailers (one with the new Indy or Iron Man and then another in the fall)?

Re: Teaser Trailer Debunked!

As Germans, we tend to over-react. I'm pretty sure she didn't mean it that way, but one should be careful when saying such things. Might really hurt people's feelings. And sorry, it's not funny.

But.... okay. If someone wants to joke with a cliche, I don't mind too much. Just most Germans get really cranky when it comes to Third Reich and such. Nobody wants to be compared to mass murderers these days....

Having read Temis' posts for the past couple of years, regularly, I'm 99% sure that she didn't mean anything by it. A short "sorry, that wasn't my intention" would put this all to bed, I think.

It's VERY EASY to say that sort of thing, or the overwhelming majority of the human race, because we all have a natural inclination to think of things from our own narrow perspective. It's a difficult thing, learning to see things from other peoples' points of view.

She screwed up, but I ALSO think that there's some "overreaction" going on here (though to be fair, all the chastizement seems to be quite gentle... much moreso than the raping I took when I had the temerity to say that the Enterprise was "neutral grey" instead of "green grey" a little over a year ago. ;)

Temis... a quick clarification will put this all to bed... won't it, folks? I don't think anyone's gonna hold a grudge... they just wanna know that you didn't MEAN to make an anti-german slur.

Re: Teaser Trailer Debunked!

If I as a white American man can get bashed for black slavery which was ended well over a century before I was born I think the krauts can grow a thicker skin and take a little bashing for their moron ancestors bringing Hitler to power less than a century back. I mean obviously two wrongs don't make a right but I didn't know the Germans were such pussies when it came to name calling.

Because it's always important to defend our right to be unfair, untruthful and mean-spirited - right?

I wouldn't bash you for black slavery for sure. How could I? You have nothing to do with what your ancestors did. And I surely wouldn't label the whole US a country consisting of slaveholders. I'd consider that ridiculous.

Re: Teaser Trailer Debunked!

ALL:

Okay...this thread has gotten WAAAAYYYY off-track with the Nazi baloney.

Please knock off that entire part of the discussion post-haste.

Let's go outside and clear that.
