The symbol M2000 barcode scanners

Holographic projectors. Any station can throw data into the air in front of them or onto the main screen for the captain's review.

If they're still using paper, it might be for scanning data into the computer from a hard copy.

That's a good possibility. They could also be some sort of motion sensor like the controls in "The Cage" where you just wave at them.

I dunno, the more I look the more wrong it looks. Same deal with the cheap looking desk lamps above the helm and nav consoles. And then, of course, the duct tape. That is duct tape isn't it? Something looks fishy.

No, it just looks uncomfortable. Those cushions look as if they're made of wood.

Which is odd, because the rest of the chairs look pretty nice, and well padded.

It looks as if officer training requires you to deal with constant back problems and ass crampage.

One thing that bugs me is that, like in TOS, the chairs (other than the captain's) don't seem to be attached to the deck. This strikes me as a bad, unsafe idea.

The duct tape -- or perhaps ductanium tape -- is for sealing up the cardboard box after Chekov checks out your new Wii at his electronic cash register, using the bar code scanners.

It's all very simple.

Maybe the "bar code scanners" are tricorders in recharging stations. :p

Maybe they're attached from the bottom, or they're glued.

I'm honestly surprised that with all the money stuffed into this thing, they still use such CHEAP props, with out so much as spray painting them or adding some plastic bits.

I had the same thought, but why would every station need one. Wouldn't it be more practical to have a central projector, say, in the ceiling, that was linked to all the stations?

Its homage to the TOS!!!

the LCD screens are actually lite by christmas lights to evoke TOS

BTW the duct tape dissapears too. Probably due to Nero's tampering with the timeline. Without the duct tape Scotty wasn't able to repair the warp core.

Amazing. It is gone. It really was a roll of gaffer's tape! Some smartass just left it there for a few shots because it was white!

They've got effin' barcode scanners sittin' on the console... who's gonna notice THIS?

I guess even with a large budget, you gotta cut corners somewhere.

The scanners may belong there, but maybe the picture of Chekov with the duct tape on his console was taken during a rehersal or something, and removed before actual shooting. Something to look for, I guess. :)

Well, it's from the trailer.... but I too have thought that this particular shot may just be a test shot (for lighting, camera moves...) before the actual shooting.
