A quick Google search confirms that "some people" consists largely of right-wing lunatics trying to spread panic.

Actual journalistic articles and indeed statements by the Obama administration indicate the vaccines will voluntary. The big push here is to get them freely distributed, and partnering with schools means kids can get them easily--and in some cases their families can get them, too.

I'm saying that the threat of the disease or sickness that you want to "immunize" against should at least be equal to the health risks that may ensue after being vaccinated for it.

Did you read the article? Saving the lives of perhaps 100 children in the USA is certainly a commendable goal--but if mass vaccinations CAUSE debillitating side effects (Gulf War Syndrome) in almost all of, or millions of, the people who get the vaccine--then what's the goddamned point?
And especially so if the "disease" is only a flu (!) that most people will get over with no medical intervention.

Yesterday (I have no idea how I ended up on that link) I read about a lunatic proposing not to vaccine against anything, since any vaccination would be based on 'fecal matter', 'aborted fetuses' and 'children grounded to a paste'?? I mean, seriously, how misinforming can you be? And the most disturbing thing is, judging by the comments on that site, there are actually people who believe that shit and don't vaccinate their children for anything, ever.

While I agree with you about aspartame, I hope you have some evidence regarding flouride and mercury. If you're talking about the alleged link between autism and thimerosal, the man who promoted this hypothesis even admits he made it up. It's been thoroughly debunked.

Autism or no autism Mercury is known to cause mental problems and destroy neurons. Ever read about that Chinese emperor who used to take Mercury because back then they thought it gave prologued life? the guy lost his marbles. Putting Mercury into the body of a baby is dangerous and is toxic.

A quick Google of "mercury vaccine" brings up several relevant links. I'm far from an expert, but the gist is:

1) Although no evidence that vaccines using a mercury-based preservative are harmful have been found, the FDA suggested in 1999 that use of said preservative should be limited until more information was available, if only to allay public fears.
2) The mercury received through a single vaccine injection (if it contains this preservative) is approximately as dangerous as the mercury consumed in a can of tuna fish.

Yeh and when I found that out I stopped buying canned Tuna. No amount of mercury and no amount of fluorine is safe, especially to the developing susceptible body of a baby/child. I don't need a vaccine, i've got a perfectly fine good working immune system, it's worked for our species and other species for millions of years. They didn't have vaccines a million years ago and we don't need them now.
If I catch swine fly my bodies defences will fight it off with or without a vaccine.
There's hundreds of natural remedies out there to boost the bodies immune system and if people eat healthily and their kids eat healthily there's no need for vaccines.

The day they make the swine flu vaccine mandatory is the day our society begins to crumble and our rights and liberties and freedoms are squashed.

You have got to be kidding me. The black death was so severe because of the appalling conditions people were living in and the malnutrition of the poor people and homeless. We don't live in the western world in such disgusting conditions anymore, we are cleaner, our homes are cleaner, we have healthy food merely down at the local supermarket and most everybody has the money to buy such food and we also have access to alternative medicines and above all people actually get bathed and showered several times a week as opposed to once a year.

Times are different. We do not need vaccines. Our immune systems work fine so long as people stay fit and healthy. We live in an unhealthy society and vaccines are not the answer and are not required.

Yes, the times are different. So are the virusses and diseases. That doesn't mean in any way that we do not need vaccines. They exist for a reason, an important reason, to keep you from attracting certain diseases and keep you healthy. If you attract such an disease without taking the vaccine, usually, you die. Or, at the least, become very, very ill. Simple as that.

Not only that, but because we take such good care of our hygiene, we have lots of other diseases running around that wouldn't spread otherwise. Being clean and healthy is not a guarantee for a disease-free life. Ever heard of the term "prosperity-disease"?

There is no excuse, at all, to not take a vaccine. Unless you live in a giant hamsterball.

Squalene is a biological precursor to cholesterols on the steroid synthesis pathway. Your body is full of it, as are almost all other sources of animal derived organic material. If squalene was dangerous, we would be royally fucked, pardon my French, vaccine or no vaccine.
