The Surrogates (Bruce Willis)

One thing I didn't buy about the premise is that 98% of the global population has a surrogate. Did they cure poverty or something?! How the hell do all the starving millions of the Third World afford a surrogate?!

I agree that it was pretty much bullshit. I would have maybe been slightly more forgiving if they said 98% of North America, even then I still find that impossible to believe. That crime thing also seemed odd. Having all these people plugged in all the time, unaware of their surroundings and helpless would be great for break and enters, assaults, murders and sexual crimes. I don't see why murders wouldn't still happen, that jealous spouses wouldn't smother or stab/shoot their partners while they were plugged in.

The motives of the bad guy were a touch weak, especially when he was going to kill billions. Also agree with others that said it was a bit obvious who the bad guy was.

I enjoyed the movie though.

Here's my take. First off, short movie, not even an hour an a half?! Come on! Make it worth my $$! Second, waaaay to predictable, while the beginning credits were rolling I turned to my wife and called every major plot point. During the whole movie she kept going, "You were right! How'd you know?!"

My grade: Meh! :vulcan:

I thought it was pretty good. Some surprising twists I did not guess from the trailer. (even though much was revealed)

My biggest problem (aside from short running time) would probably be that all other technology aside from the surrogates had not advanced much (or at all), which does not seem very realistic. But it's a small nit for me. Overall it was a pretty good 'high concept' SF movie. Not enough of those these days it seems.

B+ would be my grade.

I can't say I noticed the score much... I guess that means it was okay, neither great nor bad. It did its job without being memorable. :)

I just saw this for the first time last night.

I loved it!

I thought it was great. Short, but great.

I agree the "98% of the world" part is extremely unlikely, but I thought it made it's point, and had some cool moments and some nice moments.

Thumbs up.
