The Sun strikes again (possible spoilers for final special)

The latest "scoop" from the Sun is that Rose, Martha, and Donna will all return for Tennant's last special, as the tenth Doctor faces off against the Master, allegedly played once more by John Simm. The story is here.

Donna's return has been rumored by usually reliable sources for many months, as has that of Simm's Master; Martha was claimed by the Sun to be returning in a more recent article. This is the first I've heard of a claim that Rose will be back yet again.

As always, it's the Sun: they make stuff up, they exaggerate, they steal stories from forums. Cum grano salis and all that. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised to see Donna back but am not yet convinced about the other two. We should know soon, since filming on these finals specials is due to start at the end of the month and there'll probably be casting announcements then.

Edit: it's also worth pointing out that Billie Piper is currently filming the third series of Secret Diary of a Call Girl, and has suggested that she might take fewer acting roles to spend time with her young son.

I await the legion cries of "omg a retread of 'Journey's End'" and "I'm so sick of Rose/Martha/Donna plus her story is over" that rumors like these inevitably produce.

Mixed feelings if this is true (BIG IF):

I wasn't a huge fan of Simm's Master, but I wouldn't object to his return (and in a way I'd be glad he came back as Simm rather than them recasting just yet, I don't want to end up with a succesion of one off Masters...)

Martha: There's really no point bringing her back unless it was to bear witness to the regeneration, frankly I'm not her biggest fan so I'd probably accept any other companion doing this first!

Except Rose...

Her story is over...of course it was over the first time and he still brought her back so I wouldn't rule it out, but I would lose a tiny bit more respect for RTD.

Donna: Hell yes bring her back!!

Of course there's the possibility that all of these people (and more) are simply going to appear as hallucinations while Tennant regenerates ala Davison in Androzani. I'd imagine we'd get Sarah Jane, Jack, Mickey and maybe even Jackie in those circumstances...

Frankly if this is true then my money would be on the hallucination angle rather than as fully fleshed characters.

'Journey's End' was the "Last Hurrah" for all of his original characters. I'd expect the focus of these last few episodes and especially Tennant's last story to be on the Doctor himself. (And Davies says something along those lines in SFX.)

Now, Simm= yay. Donna= Yay, cos she's great and they need a better ending for DoctorDonna (especially with Ood Sigma being seen on location). Martha= Yay cos she was great (in season 3, less good in Crotchwood and season 4)
