The Story of Lost, in chronological order

mtmaloney that's a pretty ambitious project you're handling!

Sounds amazing anyway and I think it would be worth a watch.

I think that's a bit of a retcon. Pretty sure plot mattered more to the writers at the start and middle than at the end. As for characters acting logically, I'm pretty logical, and if I were on that island I'd have asked a lot more questions.

I don't know that either is quite true, as the show had times where it went from one to the other, occasionally striking a good balance.

Season one was an example of a pretty good balance between exploring the characters pasts and how they motivated their interaction with the Island plot in the present. Sawyer and Jin were examples of some pretty fantastic character development during this time.

Season two meandered in character exploration and sometimes glacial plot movement. Problem with the character exploration at this point was that it often informed us of things we already knew, i.e. Charlie is addicted to drugs, Sayid is a torturer, Michael never got to raise his son, etc. Some of the character development pushed characters into more unlikeable territory, such as Jack and, especially, Locke.

Seasons three and four struck a good balance, IMO, in exploring the characters, developing them, giving time to both new and old faces, while also pushing the plot ahead. Season five began to focus on plot over character, which gave it very little emotional oomph for me. Season six followed the season two format of very little plot, but a lot of character stuff that sometimes only served to tell us what we already knew. In the end, the character stuff paid off into the reunions we saw in the finale, but the setup for these payoffs existed in the seasons previous to six. Charlie/Claire, Sawyer/Juliet, Sun/Jin wouldn't have meant anything without the first five seasons of development for these relationships.
