The stigma of being a virgin loner (must end)

So, I basically have come to the conclusion that he just makes these retirement announcements to drive up the price of his autograph. In short, fuck you Leonard, I don't care.

On the other hand, he's the only thing that made Bruno Mars' "The Lazy Song" bearable!

I thought the christian teen motto was "anything but" as in anything but intercourse was ok.
I thought it was 'anything butt'
It isn’t at all surprising that teenagers who make formal “virginity pledges” are more likely to engage in oral and anal sex. Anyone who signs a contract is bound to look for loopholes — and these teens have found two! ;)

"virginity pledges" just amuse me. It's a way to feel self-righteous about something that has no moral component to it. Whether one engages in consensual sex or not is a choice that involves only the two people that would be doing it. It hurts no one, and doesn't make you less "pure" or "noble" if you have sex.

It's like bragging about making a "no alcohol" pledge. You don't want to drink alcohol? Ok, that's fine. But don't expect others to be impressed by your stand.

virginity pledges are dumb. It puts even more pressure on teenagers/young adults in an already tense and awkward time in their life. People should be allowed to make their own personal decisions without such outward pressures.

I don't think there is a stigma associated with being a virgin at 16. Many 16-year-olds are virgins, whether they admit it or not. It's only later that virginity starts to become unusual and thus, somewhat stigmatized.

Well, I had my first sexual experience (fooling around with another guy) when I was around 14. I didn't go all the way with another guy until i was around 16, actually.

Er, alcohol's a poor comparison, considering alcoholism.

I think the stigma should be doubled as punishment for starting this thread.

That's probably unfair to all the other virgin loners, but what the hell.

er, how so? Drinking alcohol socially or on occasion doesn't make one an alcoholic.

I guess it depends on WHY you're not drinking. Are you doing it because you think it's morally wrong, or is there another reason? Even if you're not an alcoholic, alcohol is still pretty unhealthy.

I imagine that beyond those in AA, the vast majority of individuals who sign "no alcohol" pledges are minors, just like "celibacy pledges". The intent is to say that you won't give in to the temptation of alcohol/sex until you are ready.

I have a cousin who signed a "no alcohol" pledge at the college he went to, and the intent was that you wouldn't drink until after graduation. Similar to a celibacy pledge, where the intent is that you wouldn't have sex until marriage.

And sexual addiction is a very real thing, so I think the comparison is still valid.

How about 'cause it doesn't taste very good. Which is a shame because some of those cocktails look delicious otherwise.

Well, sure, if you just don't like something that's fine. I think we've had this discussion before, but for me, alcohol was an acquired taste. It took me a while to figure out what I liked and how to mix things properly, and my beer tastes have changed considerably since I started drinking. I used to be a light beer guy, but now I won't touch it unless it's heavy and bitter.

depends what kind. Red wine in moderation can have health benefits. Six-packs of beer? Not so much.

Yes, red wine can have health benefits, but those benefits don't come from the alcohol in the wine. Beers rich in hops, as well as stouts, have health benefits as well, but those benefits also don't come from the alcohol.

You can get the same benefits of red wine from other sources that don't require consuming alcohol.

I'm a light beer person, though I have been looking at trying Guinness.
