The Star Wars problem

Since the characters in TFA are different, and behave differently, and that TFA is not a carbon copy of ANH, I have no issue with either film.

NEM, however, and unfortunately, has Picard wholesale slaughtering a pre-warp civilization military. Only one movie ago he was ranting at an Admiral for violating the Prime Directive. That's not just out of character-that's character assassination.

Finally, is Star Trek Into Darkness as good as TWOK?
1). What is self defense?
2). Into Darkness is bad because JJ is a bad filmmaker, not because of Khan rip off scenes. Star Trek '09 is JJ's only good film. Or tv show.

The mission was a violation of the PD from the get go. So, no, it wasn't justified killing.

I think Into Darkness is a good film, and that Abrams is a decent filmmaker. So, agree to disagree on all but the fact that ST 09 is JJ's great film.

If we're going that route, Picard has violated the prime directive at least 9 times in the show, usually to help a crewmember. Like Data.

And no, ID is not even close to good. Talk about OOC/bad characters. Spock is more emotional than a human, Kirk is still a flanderized caricature, Bones is barely in the movie, "Khan" is somehow a white british name, Robocop is kind of a bad actor, etc...

"Emotions run deeply in our race, in many ways, more so that humans." From that good ST 09 show. Also, Spock was pretty emotional in that film too.

Also, I would take Cumberbatch as Khan any day of the week and Kirk is actually growing in that film. All and all, very enjoyable from a character perspective.

I disagree.

I started listening to the Nemesis score just because you said this. Got bored after a while, didn't seem memorable.
Switched to First Contact.
That sounds like a you problem. It's much more haunting than most ST scores. Lots of sickly synths and dark ambience. Listen to the track "The Scorpion" for an awesome action cue, or listen to the final track for the way the first few notes of "Blue Skies" segue into the main theme. Beautiful stuff.

I really love the opening/main theme to that. Jerry Goldsmith managed to do it again!

Same. It's beautiful... sweet, melancholic... possibly Trek's best theme.

The Scorpion seemed pretty generic. Not bad at all but like I've heard it before in many other movies.
The first notes of "A new ending" were nice but... really too short. :p

Generic? Whoo boy. The way the light piano taps in between bursts is amazing. I think you just chimed in because you felt like ribbing me, because Nemesis is an excellent score.

I did like the piano in it, yeah.
I don't care to troll you, I was genuinely interested, which is why I put the Nemesis score on. I haven't listened to it much.

Maybe it has to grow on you or something. First Contact might be more fun to listen to in isolation since it has more high octane stuff, but Nemesis' score is really well integrated into the movie. I like the movie so the music reminds me of the atmosphere of the film.
I also think it's just good music.

I'll give it another shot. I hope I won't have to turn in my nerd card for admitting this but I just don't know Nemesis very well. I watched it three times over the years. The first two times was in the middle of the night with friends and I fell asleep half-way through both times (because I was tired, not because of the movie).
Then everybody said the movie sucks anyway so I never gave it a proper viewing until a few months ago when I finally watched the whole movie and realized it's not nearly as bad as some people say it is. It's a solid Trek movie and I'd rewatch this over most TOS movies.

Cool :). Yeah, I was surprised when I found out Trek fans didn't like the movie. The script and directing is probably the best out of the TNG movies IMO. That doesn't mean First Contact isn't awesome too though.

Better than Generations and Insurrection, and tied with First Contact. Not my favorite film, but its an interesting adventure.

NEM isn't a bad Trek film sure there are elements of it I'm nod fond off. I also think it had slightly more ambition than NEM, as for the score I abrely remember it apart from the parts there were lifted from TMP. But it has been several years since I watched NEM.

I personally felt that the 2009 "Star Trek" movie was crap. The only J.J. Abrams movie that I had truly enjoyed was "Super 8". To be honest, I didn't think it was that original. The plot reminded me of a "Star Trek Voyager" episode. But I thought it was first-rate.
