I think the conversation around the meaning of the word "canon" has run its course for this thread. Please get back to being impressed that there's a new edition of the encyclopedia coming (or being unimpressed, as you choose)

Where in Mr. Okuda's post did he say TAS was being excluded?
I already asked about TAS on Twitter after it came up in this thread, and he confirmed there that it won't be included.

As someone mentioned uptopic, we are fully integrating the Abrams films into the text, labeling them clearly, just as we did with the Mirror Universe and any other legitimate part of the Trek universe.
It makes no sense to exclude TAS. The policy that led to its exclusion from the old edition has been defunct for over two decades. TAS has been referenced in most of the modern series and was an influence on the '09 film. It's included in the "canon-only" Memory Alpha and on StarTrek.com as fully as all the other series are. It's the original onscreen source of Amanda Grayson's last name, the city name ShiKahr, the place name Lunaport, the ship name Klothos, and the Caitian species that's been utilized in TVH and (theoretically) STID. It contains the only onscreen reference to McCoy's daughter. It's the source of at least two visual elements used in TOS Remastered, the city of ShiKahr as seen in "Amok Time" and the freighter ship design used for the Antares in "Charlie X." A Star Trek reference book cannot be complete or comprehensive without including it. So I sincerely hope it is included in the new STE.

Damn it! Why in the world not? There is no conceivable reason for that, not anymore, not for over twenty years. And I've already said why I think it's a huge mistake.
And I must ask again - is there a Kindle version?
