The stab Picard fest...

It's a little silly that Troi could survive being attacked by Data, more realistically he would punch through her in a split second like the Terminator.

To further add, that stab taught Picard the importance of making the most of his life..

The worst wound was seeing Picard, wearing that blue, a junior at his age, life having passed him by playing not to lose.

But then too, that's most of us saps isn't it?

That's the unkindest cut of all...

I always wondered if Picard could have, conceivably, told anyone (like Riker and Troi in that scene in 10-Forward) the absolute truth, i.e. spilled the beans to them about Q's creating this alternate timeline. Surely Picard still has all of his knowledge of being captain? I bet he could have convinced them.

It's likely that they didn't know about Q in this timeline and therefore they would believe that he was just the victim of a self-serving delusion or worse that he was a liar and trying to deceive them, plus it's not so much his knowledge that they would question as much as his ability to take chances. I doubt they would let him take command and order everyone around just to see if he could. Remember how easily Worf stole his leadership when that being erased their memory to make them attack his enemy. Picard didn't fight for control all that much and there was a look of annoyance on Worf's face every time Picard took an initiative.

If Picard tried to spill the beans I bet Q would just show up and berate him until he stopped trying :D

Q did seem to have a special "friendship" with Picard, but I don't see any reason why the "Tapestry" timeline couldn't have also encountered him.

That being said, I do buy Makarov's explanation that Q would intentionally hinder any attempt by Picard to explain things. The whole thing was set up for Picard's benefit, after all. If Picard tried to weasel his way out of it, Q would interfere.

To be fair, it wasn't really an attack. It was an attempt to excise a parasite. I could easily see Data halving a person, from crown to crotch, with one knife stroke, if he wanted to. That was not his intention, hence why he told her to hold very still.

Geordi gets knocked around quite a bit too...loses his VISOR constantly, marooned with a Romulan, loses his mother and is fooled by aliens into thinking she's still alive, strapped down on a surgical table by crazy Data, probed by extra-dimensional aliens, brainwashed by Romulans, constantly rebuked by the opposite sex, thrown out of phase and presumed dead, plus surrounded by people that seem to think the warp core runs on rainbows and unicorn poop.

Well, unicorn poop is not easy to come by...;)

I could be wrong but I think the most tortured character of all of star trek is Miles O'Brien. for example at the very beginning of the series, he's the first one to get the babel syndrome/disease... when the dominion induces the collective delusion among the crew of the defiant, he's the one who gets beat up, almost to death by the Jemadar just for being in his way. When Odo is sick and they go in the gamma quadrant to get help from the founders, when the Jemhadar board the ship he's the one they choose to torture (by doing something unseen to his chest) and that's only the incidents... There's also entire episodes where he's being tortured... The one with the Cardassians (they remove one of his teeth), the one with the agratha, the one where he's a clone, in The Armageddon game, he's the one who gets infected, not Julian. His shoulder gets dislocated all the time, once when Quark hands him a drink and he reaches for it. In one episode he keeps going in the future and ends up dying and an alter ego from the future takes his place ( similar to what happens to Kim on Voyager). His daughter is sent to the past and comes back ten years older and an outcast, his wife is taken over by a pah wraith and he has to do its bidding, and to add insult to injury (that's around his birthday!!!) . He's shot and almost die inside the section 31's guy's mind!!! And I am sure I missed a few.
