The Spock also rises...

Time to indulge in a bit of fan speculation...

The ENTERPRISE INCIDENT was playing locally today so I had to watch it for the first time in many years. Joanne Linville's unnamed Romulan Commander had amazing chemistry with Leonard Nimoy's Spock. Despite each character being fiercely loyal to their home ''territory'', the episode ends with both implying a romance could yet still be possible.

So since Spock goes on to live another, what, 80 years or so until the destruction of the Romulan homeworld in ST09, and according to AMOK TIME he is fated to experience pon farr every 7 years, that would give him approximately 11 chances to get his mojo going...

Frankly, of all of Spock's romantic liaisons, I had always thought the Commander to be uniquely suited for him. This has probably been examined elsewhere, but wouldn't a rare emotional link to the Commander at least partly explain Spock's self-appointed mission to establish diplomatic ties with the Romulan Empire beginning with TNG's ''Unification''?

After all, except for getting jiggy with Saavik in ST III, once just can't be enough to satisfy a boy for 80 years, right?

The secret she was referring at the end wasn't their relationship, it was that Spock was a Romulan.

I always felt the same way about the possibilities about Spock and the Romulan Commander. Even tho it contradicts Vonda McIntyre's adaptation of "The Wrath of Khan," I kind of like the idea of Saavik being their child rather than being an orphan from Hellguard. Joanne Linville and Kirstie Alley shared a few similar facial features and I always wondered if Kirstie's Saavik's rounded eyebrows came from a human father (or half-human).

Her character has probably had the most "parallel universe" possible futures of any other in the licensed fiction. She's been invariably permanently exiled, pardoned and even revealed as the secret veiled Praetor. She's been Head of Romulan Security, a double agent and even ended up with a "pet" cloned Kirk, altered to pass as Romulan. She's had several different secret names. Her aunt has headed a revolution and flirted with Kirk - and they possibly produced a daughter, T'Kir.

The unnamed Romulan Commander was also a prominent character in the "Vulcan's Forge"/"Vulcan's Heart" hardcovers, in which Spock and Saavik wed.
