As someone who has spent some time in South Korea (ROK.) I can tell you that the South Korean police have plenty of practice in extreme crowd control. They already have huge protest marches from college students, that are often violent.

Can someone here tell me, I've always wondered, why don't they (world leaders) hold these meeting on some nice sized island somewhere, or on a mountain top resort?
I mean there are (seemingly) always riots and vandalism and injuries.

Exactly. Besides, there's always Davos for that sort of shenanigans.
They have tried doing them in more isolated locations in the past (Gleneagles, for instance, or the place Berlusconi picked), but really, it's an entirely legitimate and useful meeting of world leaders so shouldn't be driven away from meeting in a city, just because of the extremist element in the protestors.
