the social network on rottentomatoes

That's got to be the most annoying pretentious trailer of all time. I'm so sick of it and I saw it WAY too many times in theater. I don't think I could stand to watch the movie, much as I love David Fincher. Also, I truly, truly, truly hate the main actor. I just can't stand him. His face, his speech, his manorisms... ugh.

Hmmm, the couple of reviews I read on another site actually said they were disappointed in the film. Either way I have no interest in seeing it, I really couldn't care less about how Facebook was started.

I can't wait to see this. David Fincher + Aaron Sorkin = pure win as far as I'm concerned. I'd watch any film those two worked on, even if it was about a phone book.

I want to see this.

Aaron Sorkin was on The View and talked about the movie as well as what he thinks of Facebook.

Also, Mark Zuckerberg was on Oprah last week and when asked what he thought of the movie, basically said that events were dramatized to be entertaining and that the writers will be the first to tell you that.

I'm really glad that Sorkin is getting back on top of his game, because I've found his post-West Wing output middling at best (Charlie Wilson's War), and noxiously self-absorbed at worst (Studio 60).

I'll only watch it after I read Armond White's negative review.

Edit: He really did give the first negative review.

This is a terrible idea for many, many reasons. I'll list them.

1. No one cares about facebook anymore. This movie would have made a lot more if they made it in 2007, when facebook was at its prime. Now everyone is just sick of it. Stupid applications, privacy violations, annoying layout changes. The novelty has worn off and frankly, no one cares to even use it, let alone learn about it. I would liken this to making a movie about the guy who invented the buggy whip, to steal from Other People's Money.

2. It's cookie cutter pretentious. I'm glad someone else mentioned how annoying the trailer is. It follows the same trailer every other movie does.

(Show someone with an idea or facing a problem.)

(Show how much of a FUCKING GENIUS THEY ARE HOLY SHIT.)

(Show people having sex with a darkened gradient, because everyone has sex in shadows.)

(Show things going bad.)

(Make a joke.)

(Title.)

Christ, haven't we had enough spray tanned college strippers from the transformer series and Nickelodeon? Speaking of, what's London Tipton doing in college?

3. The acting is going to completely suck. I'm not blaming this one on the actors. Far from it. But there are just so many more interesting things in this world than talking about a website no one cares about. If I told YOU to talk about youtube for an hour and a half could you POSSIBLY keep up enthusiasm? No.

4. The last time Fincher did a non-metaphorical film was Alien 3. Enough fucking said on that one. What was he thinking? He found his true talent (and I used to hate the guy until I saw his real movies, with metaphor and good premise). I just don't get what he gets out of it. What are you supposed to learn about yourself watching that douchebag Zuckerberg?

5. Everyone that worked on facebook has sold out. You know that fact is going to be nagging on a lot of people.

6. There's no zombies and that's just pathetic.

7. 90% of movies are in college these days. GROW UP ALREADY.

8. They're going to make Zuckerberg and Facebook look like Jesus Christ. There's going to be no mentioning of the controversies like the private information trafficking, the unnecessary updates and layout changes, the addition of features that remove privacy, the stalking, the hackjob applications, and the aforementioned selling out. It's going to be some bullshit heroic tall tale.

For the record, everyone I know loves Facebook, and it's still finding its way into the mainstream. I don't know anybody that's "sick of facebook."

I'm sick of Facebook. But maybe that's because I only use it for work and wouldn't have ever touched it if I wasn't being paid to. :rommie: For starters, it's a disastrously badly designed piece of total crap, from both a graphic design and usability standpoint. It insults my aesthetic sense every time I have to look at it. I was sick of it the instant I looked at it, I'm still sick of it, and I will always be sick of it. It amazes me that anyone can tolerate it. Facebook is a testament to the total take-over of our society by mediocre crap.

I'm surprised so many people let how they feel about Facebook influence their interest level in the movie. I don't care about Facebook. I think I'm the only person I know who doesn't have a Facebook page and I'm proud of that fact, but I like good movies, and I'm always interested in the work of talented filmmakers.

I'm interested in this movie mostly because I've enjoyed movies by its director ("Fight Club", "Seven", "Panic Room", "Zodiac") and writer ("The American President", "A Few Good Men"). You can't judge a movie based on its subject matter, and sometimes doing that can make you miss out on something you might really like. I refused to watch "Jaws" for years, because despite its reputation, I was convinced that there's no way a movie about a shark attacking people could be anything but stupid. When I finally saw it, I was blown away and regretted having such a closed-minded attitude towards it for so many years.

Good lord, your opinions are fucking ridiculous. What's not usable about it? I find it pretty damn easy to navigate, and it certainly doesn't offend my senses.

Even if I didn't like facebook, I still think the trailers for the movie look interesting.

I've been looking forward to this since reading the script which was excellent. I guess no one watches trailers on the internet any more because there are a whole bunch of different ones. As for making Zuckerberg look like Christ, uhhh no...there are already reports that Facebook and Zuckerberg are pissed off at the movie with it's portrayal of them. This film is going to get several Oscar nominations and Sorkin will win for best original screenplay even over Nolan's "Inception". Is Jesse Eisenberg annoying? I agree he has a lot of similar acting characteristics as Michael Cera to the ponit where I thought Michael Cera was in "Zombieland" but he looks great. Justin Timerlake is getting praised for his portrayal of Sean Parker, the founder of Napster, as much as it might be hard to believe I would not be shocked if he got a best supporting actor nomination. This movie is going to kick ass.

I didn't realize there was so much facebook hate... or facebook refusal.

It's a common occurrence when something gets to be that popular for there to be a small but vocal backlash. There was a similar backlash against MySpace, but that was OK because people could flock to Facebook. I have yet to see a viable alternative to Facebook pop up in terms of what it's actually good at, which is aggregating the social networks of half a billion people. I've used it to get back in touch with people I hadn't heard from in many years.

That said, I resisted using it for quite some time and I still don't play any of the silly games. I basically only use it to keep up with certain people. It's a communication tool and that's about all it is to me.

I don't want to see this movie for the Facebook connection but more because it's David Fincher.
