The snow monsters look like crap!

Am I the only one who thinks the CGI monsters from the "Lost" clip preview, looked bad? I like the idea of the scene but we did already see this in "Phantom Menace" with the Big fish eating the smaller fish.. Speaking of which the CGI monsters look like something from the modern "Star Wars" movies and I wasn't all that impressed with most of the creatures or CGI that Lucas used.

Since the "spider" thing was seen months ago, I don't understand why you're bringing this up now.

It's an alien world and it has animals that are different from what we see on Earth. Big deal.

You'd have preferred Kirk be chased by a Mugato?

Ooops! THEY don't exist on Earth either.

Okay, what WOULD you have accepted as a legitimate space monster?

My problem isn't that he is being chased by wierd and scay monsters. I find that idea to be amusing and very much in spirit of Trek style adventure. I just don't like how fake the aliens look. To me it is bad CGI if your aliens aren't all that convincing. I still think CGI works better on spaceships and buildings than it does when it comes to alien creatures and to me this is yet another example.

I just took a look at the clip in the other thread.... I do believe some people here are on MAJOR LEAGUE drugs to think that looked fake.

Far better monsters than the Star Wars prequels and certainly better than anything we have ever seen in Trek.

They're still a massive upgrade from Species 8472. Hell, you could see the furry animal's bones in action while it runs, just like a cheetah or a lion.

I just watched the clip and the monsters looked great to me. The fur on the first one moved well against the wind and both creatures had a definite "weight" to them that many badly rendered CGI creatures do not. I guess other than the fact that we know these creatures don't really exist, what is "fake" about them?

That they don't overtake and eat James Kirk in about .3 seconds, for one thing.

They look great and move completely believably, but the behavior of the anus-mouth in particular doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Why would it throw away the big furry indigenous critter to chase after an itty-bitty oddity like a human being, for starts? Unless it's had bad experience with Scotty coming around and pissing in its cornflakes or something and it's just personal now.

"The snow monsters look like crap!"

That's because they're not snow monsters, they're fecal monsters. Therefore, they look like crap. Get a bunch of them together and you have a big steaming pile of fecal (crap) monsters.

I thought they looked OK. My only complaint would be the color. While it may be an "underground" creature. The color is not conducive to a surprise attack predator. I would think that they would have evolved into a color pattern that would help them blend in. Bright red is not a sneaky color in an all white world. But then maybe they do things differently on other worlds. Being as big as it was might negate any need for special coloring. But still. Bright red?
