The "snag" in the City

Thing is with the JJ verse it was different from the beginning when Spock entered it! I mean George Kirk as a captain in Starfleet? I've never read that before and where was his older brother George Samuel? And why are the Federation ships so much more advanced and how does Kirk get to become a Captain after only a so little time in the academy? Definitely a different universe even before The Romulans arrive!

Simon Pegg certainly seemed to think so when he wrote STB!
Similar to the Prime Timeline sure, but different & distinct nonetheless.

BTW, everyone knows about the Romulans in the Kelvinverse, way earlier than BOT.
So, if it is a divergent timeline (which I now seriously doubt) then the divergence started way earlier than the Narada attack

Thing is I've been reading about unexplained events in books lately about time travel and some of the incidents leave you with the what if it is true scenario! A man turned up in New York in 1950 and was killed by a taxi in the street as he looked dumbfounded at what was going on around him! The man was in his late thirties and It turned out he had money and documentation in his pockets from the 1870s after finding out his identity they couldn't find him on any election registers or the like but they did find his son who was seventy five years of age when he died five years before in 1945, but they did learn from his widow that the man's Father had disappeared without a trace back in 1876! Creepy or what?

Rudolph Fentz (also spelled as Rudolf Fenz) is the focal character of "I'm Scared", a 1952 science fiction short story by Jack Finney, which was later reported as an urban legend as if the events had truly happened.

Well Starfleet knew of The Romulans long before the events of Balance of Terror due to their conflict of a hundred years previously plus that's why they ringed the area with Asteroid Bases and established a Neutral Zone! Thing is did Starfleet ever re-establish the bases after the incursion?

Something must have happened in the Kelvinverse, because by the time of the main events of the film everyone knows that Romulans look like Vulcans and the Federation has ongoing diplomatic channels open with the Romulan Empire (Pike offers it as an option to Nero).

In fact, even on the Kelvin none of the crew seemed surprised that Vulcan-looking aliens were attacking them. The implication is that the "never seen a Romulan" plot in BOT was simply not present in the Kelvinverse.

That's why i dislike the way 99% of time travel episodes play out. Since McCoy, Kirk, and Spock went into the past and actions they took back then already occurred and are part of the timeline already. It is impossible for the Enterprise to suddenly disappear or time to be altered, becasue the whole affair was already part of history.

Clearly if I go back in time to alter history I would fail, becasue whatever i did to "alter" history are already part of history at the point I left. For example I know that if I go back in time and try to assassinate Hitler before his rise to power I will fail. Why? Because Hitler did rise to power. So either time travel is indeed impossible, or whatever I did to try and stop Hitler(even if I went back a thousand times) would fail.

One of the best time travel stories I've seen is in Deja Vu with Denzel Washington. The only part I didn't like is when...

...he succeeds in saving the woman's life. Because if she never died in the first place he wouldn't have had any reason to go back in time. Thus in order for the entire story to happen in the first place she MUST die at the end of the movie.

You should read 'The Proteus Operation.' It's about a group of time travellers from WWII (still ongoing in the 1970's) who jump back and try to alter the course of the war. And end up creating our own history. Pretty cool.

I love timeloop stories (when they are well done of course!) It was also the route that J K Rowling went with Harry Potter and I suppose with good reason, since it doesn't leave you with unanswered plot questions at the end of the story.
Here's a fun one:
