The Six Million Dollar Cat

Hi,

I just came across this article on BBC News about the following:

A cat that had its back feet severed by a combine harvester has been given two prosthetic limbs in a pioneering operation by a UK vet.

I can't imagine the cat jumping onto the table though. Maybe they make a new story about it in a year or so.

What's interesting here is that the prostheses aren't attached by straps or harnesses -- they're permanent implants, fused with the cat's natural bone and skin. Permanent artificial limbs for humans might be just over the horizon.

Apparently they engineered the metal to mimic antlers that erupt from skin somehow and it worked perfectly. Definitely a good sign.
