The Sith/Old Republic era

You really think so? I'd be willing to bet that a lot of film critics don't put it on the top of their 20 favorites list, though some probably do.

:wtf: There are few people who would argue Star Wars (and or Empire) isn't one of the 10-15 best films of all time.

There's more than a few. Actually, I'd be hard pressed to find anyone I knew who'd seriously forward such a motion. Give them a couple of qualifiers - one of the best sci-fi film, or blockbuster, whatever - and maybe, but they'd absolutely not subscribe to 'one of the greatest films of all time.'

Ask me to name my top ten or fifteen films and I'd probably take a month, but as much as I like Star Wars I don't think any of its films would make the cut (or Star Trek, for that matter).

I have to agree. As much as I love Star Wars, it's not even close to being in my Top 10. Probably not even Top 20.

Well, just by doing a quick Google for "best films of all time" and browsing through a few lists (Time, A&E, TCM, AFI, IMDB, etc.) Star Wars ranged from 6-18 on most of those lists (pretty much as I said) and the one where it appeared lower (34, I think) was on what looked like some guy's fan-site.

It's certainly one of the most important films of all time, though that doesn't automatically translate into best written. As for KoTOR, so far the writing is certainly better than average for video games but I wouldn't say it was markedly "better" than the original trilogy. It may have more depth and character development, but then it's not restricted to a two hour running time like a film. Apples and oranges.

To a certain extent KOTOR is both the Star Wars we think we remembered seeing and the Star Wars we wanted new Star Wars products to be: Serious, thoughtful, dynamic, with a deep sense of its surroundings, and robots are kickass things like assassin droids and such.
It's also - and I'm saying this as a man who really enjoyed KOTOR - just a very clever pastiche of Star Wars.

I believe most of those lists are predicated on importance, influence, and so on (and hell, AFI only includes American films.) There's no denying Star Wars made a record breaking bundle of money and was hugely influential from a marketing standpoint and blockbusters and so on; a pop culture sensation, et cetera.

Oh, absolutely. And I love KOTOR also.

Star Wars wouldn't be on my best any kind of move list. I own about 200 DVDs, and not one of Lucas' films. I do rather enjoy the Tales comics and the first KOTOR game though.
