The Simpsons 2 will be in theaters on September 3, 2027.

I still catch an episode now and then, but it's long since ceased to be anything close to appointment viewing.

I've come around to the belief that The Simpsons continues to get renewed in order to keep the merchandise ecosystem alive. It's not a merchandising giant like other things in the Disney stable, but you still see a lot of swag out there.

If that's the case, whenever I see Simpsons merchandise, I always think of the Simpsons when they were at their peak rather than any of the new stuff.

I had dropped the show from my viewing list by the time the first movie came out, but I still watched and loved that movie. So, if they think now they have something that warrants another movie, well, I'm game.
That was me. When I first heard a movie was coming out, I thought it was 5 to 10 years too late. Was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Maybe this will be good too.

I wonder if they'll have another contest to find the host city for the premiere. For the first one, they had quite a unique contest, in which the Springfields in different states had to put together videos to showcase why they should become the host city. Springfield, Vermont ended up winning last time, by recreating the Simpsons intro but using their town as a backdrop.
