The idea of turning dead soldiers into RoboCops was featured in the Dark Horse Comics miniseries RoboCop: Prime Suspect and in the RoboCop: The Series TV episode adapted from it, although there it was just a proposed project that didn't get off the ground, but was a factor in the villain's motive.

I want to emphasize that the only things we know about the project are what we've learned from leaks. There's nothing officially announced, unlike Stargate, and the Robocop cast hasn't been revealed either. Is it a reboot? Or not? We don't know. A formal announcement will probably come at Comic-Con or later. I hope it doesn't get canceled like Stargate or other Robocop projects.

I'm not sure "greenlit" even makes sense. I mean, it's not like it's actually illuminated with light of a green hue; rather, it's been given the metaphorical green light to proceed. I think "greenlighted" makes more sense for that -- much like we say "moonlighted" as a verb instead of "moonlit" (as in "she moonlighted as a taxi driver") or "highlighted" instead of "highlit."

Okay, so it's not a sequel but another reboot. And in this one, per the reports, Murphy's mind will be uploaded into the robot, which means it's intentional that his consciousness survives, not accidental as in the original.
