The Season 3 Episode Displaced

I thought this was a novel concept for an episode. I did notice after re-watching it once or twice, the tactics used by the Nyrians were really piss poor. Imagine if the ship they were trying to take was Cardassian, or Klingon, or Dominion, or Kazon, or Vidian, or, or ,or, .... OTHER then a federation ship they would most likely face huge casualties , it would be a simple matter of killing each Nyrian as they appeared.

Sure, once they had swapped off your entire crew they could just fill your ship up again , and then take it, assuming you didn't blow it up. Still , they would loose quite a few soldiers each time they tried to take a ship.

Well it appears they did some research before starting the swap. That is how they knew what kind of habitat to create. They would likely have observed some of their behavior and how they would respond to the swapping.

It may have been the first time someone in there had the knowledge and means to escape, and also the desire. Their neighbor who showed them the portal had no desire to leave

hmmm... perhaps they only prey on very docile species, and they mistook the Federation principal aversion to violence for 'won't try to resist or escape'. They didn't seem the greatest fighters themselves, so that could make sense, I suppose.

Oh yeah, I forgot they talked about doing some scouting. I guess if they did find any of the species I mentioned they would have never attempted the take over.

If they were able to gain access to the personal logs they could get a good idea of how humans would react ; still feels like they would have to pass up most ships they find.

Or better yet, what about the Borg? That entire little weasel species would end up assimilated in no time:) Not that I'd think they'd have to offer the Collective that much, though perhaps that extremely long-range transporter could be useful ....

Speaking of transporters, anyone ever notice that once they moved past the Nekrit Expanse, FAR more races have transporter technology? Almost no one between the Ocampan world and the expanse had that technology.

I always thought it a missed opportunity for Voyager to be one of the few ships in the quadrant to have that ability, Borg being the obvious exception.

Or... maybe that's why no one before the Nekrit Expanse bothered to come up with that technology... they were never inspired to create it. Since the Borg didn't seem to venture past that point, I wonder if other races seeing that ability made them want to develop it themselves.

Perhaps in an indirect way, Voyager interfered with the development of all those they encountered whenever they used tge transporter. Sort of the way they inspired that planet in "BLINK OF AN EYE".

Who else had transporters? I think i can recall 3 instances that someone else had a transporter. Were there more?

My point being very few before the Nekrit Expanse had it, while it seemed commonplace afterward, particularly once they got past Borg space.

I don't think it was common place. I'm trying to think of specific examples. Annorax in year of hell had it, the dinosaurs in living whitneaa had it, and the holograms in flesh and blood had it. Were there others? I don't think three makes it commonplace

The Vaskans ("LIVING WITNESS", and likely the Kyrians, too), the Devore ("COUNTERPOINT"), the pirates from "CONCERNING FLIGHT", "THE SWARM" species (though that was before the Nekrit Expanse), the people from "BLINK OF AN EYE" at the end (though that can be argued that it was BECAUSE of Voyager they got to that point), those thieves in "THE VOID"... I'm sure there's more.

Plus, the Kazon, Neelix at first, and others all seemed to marvel at the transporter. We never saw that kind of wonder or surprise after they got past Borg space. That also rather corroborates, or at least strengthens, my position about it.

It would make sense that just as each species independently develops their own warp drive they would also develop other technology like transporters, replicators and such. I don't think Voyager had anything to do with that.

In early Voyager, the ship seems to be the technological marvel of the neighbourhood (Kazon, Neelix, and for example dr. Jetrel all seem to envy Voyager's technology level to mention just a few) (and of course there are also exceptions such as the Vidiians whose tech seems at least equivalent, probably superior), whereas in later seasons, Voyager seems distinctly more "average" when compared to the aliens they encounter.

Of course, that could also be due to the emphasis on the Kazon and on "survival" in the beginning of the series.Or perhaps a notion that Voyager started its voyage back home in one of the deeper backwaters of the DQ.
