The scoreboard at Wrigley Field

Is there any particular reason (other than age) why the scoreboard at Wrigley Field doesn't show all the teams at once?

I would assume that it was constructed when there were fewer teams than there are now.

Correct. The scoreboard went up in 1937 (and, to my knowledge, is still operated with a control panel from that very same year), when there were only sixteen teams in Major League Baseball.

It's also a rarity that all 30 teams play in one given day, so the space for 24 teams on the scoreboard (which is the current arrangement) works out pretty well.

I love Wrigley Field. I can't wait for baseball season to get going; I need to go to a game.

I think that all 30 teams are normally scheduled to play on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays throughout the season, as well as most Tuesdays and many Thursdays. There's probably many more days where all the teams are playing than are not.

However, they still have a lot of day games at Wrigley, so it's probably not often all teams have a game in progress (or completed) while the Cubs are playing.

I love the old scoreboard at Wrigley. It's one of the great things about the place.

I love Wrigley Field. I've seen a couple of games there. There are very few sports venues that have atmosphere and Wrigley is one of them. In my opinion, others that are currently in use are Fenway Park and Lambeau Field.
