The Scimitar

If the Romulans somehow build more Scimitars (which I doubt, think it was a one type only ship), then they along with the Federation with their futuristic weapons and hull plating will dominate the galaxy.

Kind of changes the galaxy a little bit doesnt it. Instead of Fed/Kli/Rom/Dom being equal, the Fed/Rom will succeed the others.

makes me wonder when exactly it is that Voyager gets back to earth because if it was during the Dominion war then I would have hoped the logical thing to do would be to put the armour and Transphasic torps onto a few defiant class ships and send the Dominion packing alot earlier.

Clearly sometime after the Dominion War otherwise the ship would've been used a lot during the final invasion of Cardassia.

Not sure if it was before or after Nemesis tho, my guess would be Before.

^ Correct me if I'm wrong, but VOY's return has to be before NEM, since Janeway's an Admiral, right?

Which is mind-boggling in and of itself, but that's another story. ;)

Cheers,

Didnt think of that.

Well Insurrection was based shortly after the Dominion War so I would guess Voyager returned sometime around Insurrection.

em.. my point being the scimitar was too advanced to have been in Nemesis, for future writers in trek to ignore the technology of the scimitar is going to be hard to accept. Following 2375 or whatever year it was the Romulans are top dogs and capable of destroying the Federation and Klingons combined, in a single trek movie the Romulans have advanced to the point of mega superpower.

Naah - how long before they find a way to detect through that cloak? Thats the only advantage the Scimitar had - it took quite a pasting from the Ent-E once the cloak was gone, there is no reason to think that had they not had the upper hand in the start the Ent-E could not have taken her in a one-on-one.

Also resources come into it - if the Feds can build ten Sovvys for every Scimitar all the Romulans have is a fleet of white elephants.

The Reman Warbird Scimitar was without doubt one of the most powerful ships in the late 24th Century,
I dunno, there's lots of races that build bigger and potentially more powerful ships. The Borg, for one. The Voth. Probably the Dominion.

So this ship was obviously the bees knees so its clearly Trek canon that the bigger the ship is and more weapons it has the more indestructable and kickass a ship is so this begs the question why dont the Romulans start building Scimitar class ships?
Why don't they start building solid gold Death Stars, since solid gold Death Stars are obviously more kickass than even the Scimitar? A fleet of about a million solid gold Death Stars, with eighty billion disruptors and cloaking devices and thaleron radiation guns, would make quick work of the Federation. There's really nothing stopping them from doing it, aside from raw material scarcity, limited numbers of shipyards, lack of trained personnel, and political fallout at home and abroad.

The Scimitar would be plain and simple toast if exposed to just 1 of the transphasic torpedoes, and a Defiant equipped with the deployable armor could be sitting for hours, if not a full day before it would succumb to the Scimitar weapons ... by which time even that tiny ship could destroy the Scimitar with pulse phasers.

In any case ...
From what I was able to gather, Voyager got back to the AQ 2 years before Nemesis events took place.

Shinzon was building the Scimitar with his Reman accomplices in a secret facility and no one (even the Romulans) knew of the ship apart from them.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Scimitar was the only super-ship that was made by Remans and it's also possible that any scientists/people involved with the project were on the Scimitar itself (which got destroyed in the movie).

Remember the Klingon BOP from ST 6 that was able to fire when cloaked ?
That ship was a prototype that obviously worked, but it was never implemented by the Klingons or the Romulans.

You would think that any advancements made in 75 years would eliminate most if not all 'imperfections' or 'faults' that came with the original cloaking devices.

And as for the Scimitar itself...
Well to tell you the truth, it's firepower and protective abilities are nothing more than a product of maximizing various technologies of the said era into one.
The techs they have are capable of producing the effect we saw in Nemesis, but the canon part kept it less developed so people wouldn't start thinking the tech was becoming way too advanced ... but in 'reality', such a scenario is unavoidable.

What irked me the most was to see just how much SF was dumb to discard the Defiant project for years simply because the Borg were not an immediate threat.
Idiots.
The writers obviously played on the complacency of the Feds which realistically speaking should have disappeared after Q Who and BOBW episodes.

If Sisko/Worf are commanding, they'll kick shit out of the Romulans. One transphasic torpedo should do. Yes they were built to combat the Borg, but so was the Defiant and it worked out pretty good vs: Breen, Dominion, Klingons, Cardassians, and Romulans (Voyager)

1)Nemesis took place in 2379

2)Voyager returned in 2377

3)Writers ignore major new tachnology? THAT's never happened before has it?
[/sarcasm]

4)it was a prototype and got blown up. whoopy-damn-doo

5)if you don't care about the books, this discussion is irrelevant until we see what state the Romulan Empire is in in 2380 in 'Star Trek' out 26/12/08

6)so what if the books aren't canon, raising their content is still valid in a discussion of the question
