The only semi correct thing that Kirk said in his rant was that they maybe took a little too long to actually run away. But I understand why they did that. If they run away in the first episode and defeat the Pride by the first season finale, then the show's over. Despite a few good bits here and there, the comic floundered after the Pride story finished and never really found a direction. Far better to keep the parents around for multiple seasons as the villains rather than wrap that story up too quickly.
Yeah, because the comic definitely ended when they defeated the Pride. Wait, no it didn't. In fact, it was a better book when the Pride were gone.
That's really just one of the big problems with the show. Don't forget that The Pride were actually villains in the comic who tried to murder their own kids, Molly was younger, there was no weird sex talk, etc. Really, you could make a good argument that Hulu is engaging in false advertising with their almost totally original teen drama that has less to do with the comic then the old Incredible Hulk show had to do with its source material. Heck, Inhumans and Cloak & Dagger resemble their "source material" more then Runaways does.
