The Runaways (Marvel/Hulu)

The only semi correct thing that Kirk said in his rant was that they maybe took a little too long to actually run away. But I understand why they did that. If they run away in the first episode and defeat the Pride by the first season finale, then the show's over. Despite a few good bits here and there, the comic floundered after the Pride story finished and never really found a direction. Far better to keep the parents around for multiple seasons as the villains rather than wrap that story up too quickly.

Yeah, because the comic definitely ended when they defeated the Pride. Wait, no it didn't. In fact, it was a better book when the Pride were gone.

That's really just one of the big problems with the show. Don't forget that The Pride were actually villains in the comic who tried to murder their own kids, Molly was younger, there was no weird sex talk, etc. Really, you could make a good argument that Hulu is engaging in false advertising with their almost totally original teen drama that has less to do with the comic then the old Incredible Hulk show had to do with its source material. Heck, Inhumans and Cloak & Dagger resemble their "source material" more then Runaways does.

I thought this was a very effective advertising at New York Comic Con.

Just watched the first episode and it was really good. Was all of the stuff with Nico having a sister who died from the comics? I don't remember that, but it's also been 2 years since I read the first collection, so my memory of it isn't very clear.

Nope. Nico's sister is new. As is the relationship between Gert and Molly. I assumed that they eliminated Molly's parents because the cast was big enough as it is, but they do find a clever way to make Molly's parents important to the story.

Also, the big bad Jonah is new to the show.

Does Hulu do weekly episodes or do they drop the whole season at once like Netflix?

Gert's actress Ariela Barer, did a few episodes of Atypical over the summer.

I didn't follow the link to the review, but what you wrote here is good news. I didn't care for season 2 nearly as much as I did for season 1.

Season 3 will arrive on Disney plus on January 10th.

I'm halfway through the third season myself, but I want to wait until I've watched the whole thing before posting my thoughts.

One item of note, a connection to the larger MCU...

While it was implied in season 2 that Nico's powers through the staff came from the Dark Dimension established in Doctor Strange, in season 3 Nico's mom calls out the Dark Dimension by name. It kind of makes one wonder if the Tina Minoru that was in the Doctor Strange movie, who was only named in the credits and also had a staff of one, is meant to be the same Tina Minoru, just played by different actress.
