The Romulan Allies

Expendable

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
Okay, so the Romulans joined the Dominion War on the side of the Federation through some sneaky dealings by Sisko and Garak. Nice work guys.

I would have figured that we would have seen more recon coming from the Romulans. More involvement. I mean yeah, there were shots of warbirds during great battles, but we really had the opportunity to get an inside look from the Romulans and we didn't really see that.

DS9 had its chance early on with that Romulan who was onboard the Defiant. At the stage when the Romulans joined the war it was just too late to focus on them.

Still with DS9 showcasing the Bajorans, Klingons, Dominion and Cardassians to a great extent, I wasnt too bothered.

TNG did more on the Romulans, but DS9 did a good job esp w/the Tal Shiar and some of the underpinnings of the Rommie Machine.

Just remember too, that we also very little Vulcans and Borg...that we can be thankful for.

Was never too impressed with Vulcan's on DS9 for some reason. Except for that Maquis one.

I'm glad we didnt see the Borg. Though it would have been nice to get a

"We are the Borg"
"I'm the Sisko"

I thought Senator Cretak was well-used. She was a good example of someone who was loyal to Romulus but willing to do the right thing when push came to shove. Too bad it was her downfall.

I wish that Romulan officer that Martha Hackett played would have hung around. She and Worf would have made a good pair.

The episodes they played a major role in (In The Pale Moonlight, Improbable Cause, Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges, etc) were generally so good that I never really missed the Romulans even though they weren't around all that much.

I guess I'm just frustrated that we spend so much time in the development of new enemies (borg, cardassians, dominion) and we don't spend much time on the Romulans. Even when the Romulans are covered in the movies it's always some breakaway faction or a walk on.

I think that the Romulans are perhaps the best enemy/ally, frenemy written.

Agreed.

The Romulans were too busy wiping out Cardassian populations from orbit while Starfleet guys stood around looking smug.

plus it would have been a budget issue to build all romulan sets, given that both DS9 and voyager were series in production at the same time and I believe I read that paramount gave the bigger budget to voyager

If anyone, that would have been the Klingon's I would think.

The Klingons would be unlikely to have any problems with orbital bombardments, but given their love of personal combat I can see them more likely to throw down troops where the Romulans would be satisfied with levelling the surface from on high.

Actually it was the Reman troops out wiping on the Jem'hadar soldiers on the surface, while most of the Romulan guys stayed in orbit looking smug

It's too bad we never got to see much of the ground combat. Except for AR-558 which only had 150 Starfleet troops. I wish we got to see them fight over an actual colony. Like Agilon Prime's ground troops fighting the Klingons.

If the Remans shot as well as they did against Picard in Nemesis, I'm surprised they could win any battle.
Mr T and the A-Team could hit targets more than the dreaded Remans
