The Roddenberry Archive / OTOY

Servers must be getting hit hard, I was initially able to navigate, but now it's back to viewing from one spot.

Congratulations guys, what an excellent milestone! Can't wait to check it out.

Kind of sucks that in order to get the full experience I need to purchase a $3.5k headset...

Edit, after playing with it, it's pretty cool. I did notice a few bugs. After running into one of the forcefields on the promenade a random door appears outside of the station floating in space. I'm also surprised that the airlock doors allow you to see into space, as the airlocks on the promenade lead to the habitat ring and not ships.

I've posted a message on the MessyDesk discord if that is still a good place to send bugs to...

@Michael: There are some outliers, but most rooms take months to be done, so patience ;)

@batboy853: Vision Pro is just another way to get it. More immersive sure, but all the content's the same on the website. Most of the team is from outside the US so we wouldn't even be able to experience that version even if we had the cash. :p

As for the promenade, it's still a work in progress, being such a massive set. Those airlocks are something of a mystery hahaha, they make no sense for accessing the habitat ring as that starts 4 decks below, so a lift would be needed anyway. We often see people arriving/leaving the station through them, even though that also makes little sense in-universe.

Feel free to DM me here or on Discord (same username) for bugs, I'll load them up on our system :)

Dude, that’s not a bug. In their never-ending quest for realism, OTOY hired Q to mess with your reality a little bit. :mallory:

This is stunning, @Rekkert. Truly stunning!

I would have assumed the Bozeman bridge would have had the battle bridge layout set layout the Enterprise C had, with the forward console.

I'm guessing they had access to set plans or behind-the-scenes photos from "Cause and Effect," and this was how the bridge was set up?

I guess the assumption is that, based on the low camera angle, if there was a forward console, it would've blocked the view of Bateson. That, or they had continuity photos or construction diagrams of the set, but if it was just that, I'm not sure they'd make that decision. They extrapolated out the rest of the Grissom and Saratoga bridges, and those were partial builds, too.

Yeah, the Grissom in particular was just the standard bridge set with the helm console and command chair rotated and moved to the edge of the central pit. It wouldn't have faced the viewscreen.

Seems like some bugs appeared after our QA process, interesting... we'll be tackling them as soon as we're able too.

Yeah, what to leave as it was and what to expand on is decided on a case by case basis, and with the original intention of the set designers in mind. On Grissom the idea in 1984 was to showcase the bridge as smaller, so it made sense for @Donny to recreate it as an oval. Then Saratoga was a simple redress of the Grissom bridge, so that made sense too.

Bozeman on the other hand had those two standing consoles behind the Captain, not a common thing for that era. That, plus the fact that the Captain was very far forward, lead us to decide to leave the front end with no additional consoles, as it was on the set. The low camera angle, as @David cgc points out, leads to the same conclusion.

Clicking through each bridge in succession, I was thinking about how well they fit with the original rationale for the radial design, that the captain should be able to see every console from their chair so they can keep tabs on what's going on with the ship. The normal Enterprise-D is pretty bad for this, but the "Yesterday's Enterprise" version fixes it with the side consoles and moving the captain's chair way up so they can see over the tactical station behind them. I was going to say the Bozeman is probably the worst, but then, maybe that's the reason for the very high displays on the back wall, and the little ones around the viewscreen. And the early Defiant bridge is just weird. I wonder when the captain's consoles were replaced with the normal ones, were those just in "The Search"?

Another fun thing was clicking through the KT-bridge, and seeing how it became less and less overlit with each movie. Though the 360° photos of those three are all tilted downward.

Yes, those vanished after "The Search." By the time the Defiant showed up again in "Equilibrium" (Season 3, episode 4) they had redressed the bridge so it essentially looked as it would through "The Changing Face of Evil" when it was destroyed.
