I appreciate every shot we get that even slightly shows what the actors looked like in make-up only. I don't know why they're so generally cagey about showing them without the "digital masks", even in candid or BTS shots.

I think seeing the "before" is interesting and informative to see what's used to get to the "after".

I was just reading through the press release on OTOY's website and started taking some extra time to look at the preview images they've provided. This one in particular struck me at how good the de-aging software they're using can be:

To my knowledge, that's not an existing frame-grab from Star Trek III or IV. Robin Curtis looks so convincingly de-aged there, it's incredible!

I'm curious to find out how this frame fits in with Yeoman Colt's ongoing story arc that's been teased:

My excitement aside I kinda feel bad that none of the Kelvinverse actors are asked to reprise anything in these projects.
They are like the redheaded stepchild of Trek now, when they were supposed to be the 'new era'. :(
Edit: the only thing from the Kelvin Era is that photobbox from ST:Beyond.

This was amazing! Looks to me that Spock got the body and stuff happened, then more stuff, then Kirk was somehow brought back to life.
No, I don't think that's it. Kirk hasn't returned to life.

You know how, when people die of old age, they sometimes claim to see long-lost relatives or friends at the end? We just saw that from the other side.

Kirk was in Heaven, wandering through Paradise, content in a way he never was in the Nexus. Those people he was seeing - Saavik, her son, an elderly Wesley 'The Traveler' Crusher and Yor - were all dead. That uniform badge was a way for him to cross over, briefly, to the Kelvinverse. One last mission.

He was sent to be there with Spock at the end. To bring the only other man he called 'brother' back to the afterlife with him.

that was really well done. The AI, deep fakery, whatever it is, is so damned impressive. Especially TOS-era Kirk in the shot of all 3. He really looked amazing.

You’re assuming they haven’t been asked. Perhaps they have been and either can’t, they don’t like the proposed storylines or the offer (money) isn’t worth their time.

That's certainly one interpretation. I think it's more in line with the idea of Project Phoenix, whatever that was supposed to be.

You could be right, but I know Zachary Quinto is still holding out the torch for a Kelvinverse revival, as is Saldana and Urban.
If anyone would jump at a chance to play Spock again in any iteration, its Quinto.
Pine has also been making noise the last three years or so cuz his career basically fizzled out.

I hate to be a sourpuss, but I didn’t like this. It just felt weird to me seeing a deepfake Kirk going around not uttering a word.

Likely because they couldn’t convincingly replicate Shatner’s younger voice, so opted to just have characters exchange expressions. Knowing that Nimoy cut off Shatner in his final years, having Shatner Kirk saying goodbye to Nimoy Spock before venturing to the great beyond… eh.

Let's be realistic though. They wouldn't do it. Their salary asking would be too high and who knows how appearing in something like this would affect their contracts for potential movie sequels down the road.

I really didn't like this at all. Yes, it was done well but there was one thing I wanted to never be made canon and that was the spock/saavik relationship. In a romantic sense, the father daughter relationship was fine. I'm choosing to interpret this all as a hallucination.
