The Rocketeer sequel in development

I hope they keep something similar to the original score.

ETA: So James Horner died last year.

That sucks.

I loved the Rocketeer comics back in the day, but I found the movie completely forgettable. I forget why. This certainly sounds like an interesting idea for a sequel, though. A frustrated WASP enlistee would make a fascinating Saturday matinee heroine. I just wish Dave Stevens were still around to draw the book.

If nothing else, it's nice to see that Disney has people talking about the Rocketeer again, and to know that it's something they still see potential in.

I just hope they try to keep the same sweet and old-fashioned spirit as the original, and not make it a lot darker or Marvelize it into just another one of their CG-heavy superhero movies.

I always loved that score. An underrated gem in a career full of outstanding work.

I was actually reminded of it a few weeks back while watching an episode of 'Rebels'. I mean, am I crazy or is this scoring totally channelling Horner's 'Rocketeer' (especially around the 1:22 mark) ?

Is the original worth a blind buy? I've been wanting to watch it for years now but Netflix still doesn't offer it on Blu-ray so I've been holding off.

The pacing and all is much like The Shadow or The Phantom films. If you enjoyed either of those you might like The Rocketeer.

I like them all, but all three spent too much time on origins and also, trying to be safe kids movies.

It's a solid little adventure film and IMO has aged very well considering. Think of it as a slightly more kid friendly Indiana Jones.
So yeah, I'd say it's worth checking out if you've never seen it.

Depends on the price. I loved it when it came out, in particular for its throwback style. My 10 year old son loves it too and I like the fact I had no qualms about watching it with him. Plus, Jennifer Connelly is in it.

That's about right. All three were just... okay.
Yeah, I do want to watch it again since I haven't seen it in an age and I'd like to give it another shot but I always wanted to like it more than I actually did. On paper, this seems like a movie I would just love but it never grabs me as much as I would like. The other films mentioned (Shadow, Phantom) are similar. However, I can't put my finger on why it didn't completely click.

Just shows how tastes can differ, I find the Rocketeer vastly superior to both The Shadow and The Phantom. It's one of my top 10 films up there with Raiders and Jurassic Park.

The Rocketeer is the movie that The Shadow and The Phantom wanted to be. The other two are a little more self aware and wink at the audience quite a bit.

The Rocketeer jumps into 1938 with both feet and just flies.

I didn't see it on Amazon Prime or Netflix or OnDemand but I want to try it again. I may have to go, *gasp*, up to the local video store. The horror.

Even if they're to old to play the characters five years later, that doesn't mean we can't at least get cameos from some of the original cast members.

I'm willing to overlook any otherwise nonsensical reason they come up with if Jennifer Connelly can be in it. :techman:

Maybe Billy Campbell can show up as a down on his luck smuggler. Mischievous, irreverent and somewhat brazen. Some kind of a rogue, maybe?
