The rewatch is going well...

Originally they were going to make the pilot a bit older and the female Captain a bit younger and the intention was for a relationship to form between them but according to Robbie McNeil that obviously never went past the 'idea' phase.

That does make me wonder about something. They originally wanted the character of Nick Larcarno. Would he still have been the pilot? If so who how much younger was the Captain supposed to be? Or was Larcarno supposed to have another position....like OPS or tactical?

It's a pity because it would have been able to work. It seems to me that the alchemy between them was very present, much more than between Janeway/Chakotay (idea quickly ruled out by the producers in Resolutions in S2 at request of Mulgrew, if I remember well - , but that got established in mind of many fans) or Chakotay/Seven (stupid idea -> after having seen Endgame, I had the impression that Chakotay - for lack of having Janeway - had had Seven as consolation prize).

(and why an older woman wouldn't have been able to fall in love with a younger man while the opposite is more acceptable?! )

Euh, who is Nick Larcarno?

Nick Larcano was the character played by Robbie McNeil in the Next Generation episode 'The First Duty' (the one where Wesley was involved in a cover-up). The writer's wanted McNeil to play that same character Nick Lacarno on Voyager but they would have had to pay royalties to the writers so they kept the actor but changed the character name to Tom Paris. It's a little more involved than that but that's the short version.

Oh, ok. THANKS for the explanation. :)

I wish I could say my rewatch is going well, but it isn't. I"m a few episodes into season 4, and I'm seriously considering dropping it in favor of "The Good Guys" with Colin Hanks and Bradley Whitford.

Same thing happened to me the last time I watched TNG. I made it through but I seriously wanted to skip the last season.

I'm hoping all over DS9 right now on Netflix. I'm just not digging the set and the crew so much. Not to say some of it isn't enjoyable.

It's interesting that you should say that. For most people, Seven's joining the crew meant that the show had become better.
Can you pinpoint what it is you don't like? Is it the stories? Is it the characters? Or something else?

I actually gave up on that series a long time ago. I wish one of you guys could help me appreciate it a bit more. It's probably the character of Picard I cannot warm up to no matter how hard I try ...

I struggled and struggled but then I ultimately got to like this show. By far not as much as VOYAGER, of course but watching it for the second time definitely feels a lot more gratifying than for the first time.

Still, I'd watch DS9 or TNG any time over ENT. I just can't even believe that it is Star Trek ...

I really like TNG and Picard is one of my favorite characters.

The only negative I can say about TNG was that every season did have at least one or two bum episodes, especially when Worf's son Alexander and/or Lwxana Troi showed up. However, I liked "Haven".

Due to stupid policy from one of my TV stations which abandoned DS9 after one season and due to Paramount skipping crap DVD.s to Europe, I've only watched the first three seasons of DS9 yet.

As for ENT, I never got into that series. I didn't like the idea of a retro show and I thought that the characters were boring. The only one I liked was Trip.

It got better. I'd actually suggest that the final season is one of the best overall seasons of any Trek show. It got good just in time to be canceled!

I'm sorry you haven't had a chance to watch all of DS9 yet but I think once you do you will probably like it.

I tend to get angry when I think about Enterprise. TNG, DS9 and Voyager had to work to 'find themselves' during their first couple of seasons and were allowed to continue. Enterprise wasn't given that chance and yes it was starting to get good.

Any show that throws two seasons of crap at you, should consider itself lucky to get two more.

The season three Xindi arc was exciting at the time but on rewatch, it loses a lot and just drags and drags. Season four was just panicked filled fan-wank. I struggle with Enterprise.

Yesterday, I re-watched the episode "Once Upon a Time", in which Neelix had to take care of a young Naomi Wildman whose mother was aboard the Delta Flyer when it crashed into a planet during an ion storm.
This episode also marked the first meeting between Naomie and Seven of Nine, called on this occasion, the Borg lady.
It was really sweet, because built like a tale and then, it is especially one of the rare episodes where we see so much Samantha Wildman and her daughter, Naomie.

And it brings me to ask this question, how Neelix - who never lost an opportunity to celebrate vulcans or klingons, never has to try to celebrate human festivities like Christmas or Saint Valentin, knowing that the crew was consisted to 60-70 % of Human beings?
And then, it's without taking into account Tom Paris, the specialist of the 20th century, who is crazy about pizzas and one of the rare to remember how to celebrate the anniversary of a 1st romantic meeting, right?! ;)
Don't people celebrate Christmas, the New Year's Eve, Saint Valentin, Thanksgiving, Halloween, etc... in the 24th century? This makes me sad.... even if in France, we don't celebrate Thanksgiving at all and Halloween isn't very popular!

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume Gene Roddenberry didn't want any religion and therefore their holiday inspired days would also be excluded.
