The rewatch is going well...

Now onto an episode without time twists.

Watched Random Thoughts also known as Tuvok, the Dark Thoughts Dealer.

He really wanted B'Elanna to let loose and go all Klingon on those telepaths. There was irritation with Seven in this episode but I can see her point. Before you visit a planet shouldn't you do some basic investigation? I mean Wesley did get in trouble for stepping on the wrong patch of grass. A little research goes a long way.

I like rewatching remastered episodes. Has voyager been remastered? I haven't actually finished watching Voyager at all, I think I'm up to season 5. Seven was annoying me with her crap.

No unfortunately.

However I think this series has 'aged' well. Some of us were commenting on how it doesn't 'look' twenty years old.

A reminder that this is a re-watch for me but husband is seeing some of these episodes for the first time.

He really enjoyed Message in a Bottle. Its too bad Andy Dick went off the rails. That guy could be funny. He recognized what's his name from The Wrath of Khan.

I mentioned that this episode started what was essentially a mini arc concerning the Hirogen so we went on to Hunters. We tried to figure out the corresponding DS9 episodes concerning the Maquis Massacre without looking it up. 'Blaze of Glory'? The letters from Home was a nice angle but we thought it would have played better if Paris who didn't care had gotten his letter and Kim who cared did not. Don't know why...we just did. He thought the whole sub plot about making a new Doctor pretty funny.

Prey. Returns of Species 8572. We had a bit of a fan discussion about how was right...Seven or Janeway. He maintained Seven should have followed Janeway's orders but he understood why she did why she did. He laughed for a long time at Paris' one liner about chasing the mouse through the Jefferys' tube. I thought it was funny but not THAT funny. He said it had more to do with the Hirogen's reaction.

So onto one of my least favorite episode Retropsect and then to the Hunting Game which is one of my favorites. I'm not allowed to say before an episode starts that I like it or not...he likes to watch without prejudice.

I'm not sure what they were trying to do with the episode Retrospect. Was it supposed to be about the whole 'false memory' thing that was a topic in the news about the time the episode was being filmed? About condemning someone on circumstantial evidence? About how a mere accusation carries an implied stigma of guilt? I'm sure there was a message there but it went right over my head.

I remember the first time I watched The Killing Game I had a secret dread that they were going to make Paris a Nazi. I have no idea why...maybe because of the way he looks. Husband liked Klingon Neelix. I think he liked the whole 'Hirogen' Arc.' They were intimidating as a foe but at the same time they could be reasoned with.

Vis a Vis. Husband has been doing well remembering the guest stars but he did not recognize Dan Butler. He said he would 'almost' recognize him but could never quite place him. I was surprised at this as he is a big fan of Frazier. He agreed with me that while this episode was well acted it was 'creepy'. The way Robbie McNeil played the alien made me forget all about Tom Paris. Then that scene with B'Elanna...eww.

The sudden 'quarter life' crisis didn't seem to bother him.

The Omega Directive. He didn't have much to say about this. He liked it, thought the idea of the Borg having a 'spiritual' side was interesting.

Seems clear to me that B'Elanna was raped by Steth in "Vis a Vis."

A few episodes later in "Extreme Risk", she is apparently suffering from clinical depression and while everyone assumes it's linked to the Maquis, I tend to think that finding out that she unknowingly had sex with Steth while he was in possession of Tom's body may have been an important contributing factor.

I don't like to think about it but I suspect that is true, especially when he said he had several 'hours' free. :sigh:

It makes sense that could have contributed to her depression, I wish the whole issue of depression in Extreme Risk had been handled better but more on that when we get to it.

Unforgettable-BORING. It wasn't a bad idea but the whole thing felt like one long teaser. Ok...when is something supposed to happen? Virginia Madsen was wasted in this.

Looking back I think this was the beginning of the end for Chakotay. With the exception of Timeless the writer's pretty much left this character by the side of the road after this. Why? Because of the actor? Because they just couldn't be bothered to come up with something interesting for him to do? Because they were so focused on Seven? All of the above?

Living Witness- He liked it. Saw the parallel to the Mirror Universe and thought the Warship Voyager bits were funny.

I didn't tell him until after this aired that Dawson was missing from the second half of The Omega Directive on because she had her baby. It was decided that 'in story and off camera' she was really off secretly working in tandem with Seven and Harry on a backup EMH. It was sort of a surprise for The Doctor and Tom so the Doctor wouldn't fret about leaving Tom alone in sick bay and Tom wouldn't worry that something might come up that he couldn't handle. They made several. One of these was what was left in charge during Gravity and of course Critical Care. We write fanfiction without even trying. ;)

I very loved it and I think Robert Beltran and Virginia Madesen were great in it.

There`s a quote by Director Andrew Robinson:

"Director Andrew Robinson was thrilled by the acting of his two lead performers in this episode. "They hired Virginia Madsen to play the alien woman," Robinson stated, shortly after having worked on this episode, "and that was great. Robert [Beltran] was great! [....] [Madsen] and Beltran will break your heart. They have this wonderful thing and it's an ill-fated love story. Get out the Kleenex! It broke my heart. They were sweet and honest and connected. There's a real charisma between them. It really was wonderful and I don't mind saying so myself, but I think it's some of Beltran's best work. I've never seen him better. The man has such a sensitivity and such a depth when he is given something to do."
I can`t agree more.

Yeah, I also think Unforgettable is a very good episode with a very interesting exploration of why we fall in love with people in one set of circumstances but not another.

It reminded me of the scenes in Groundhog day when Bill Murray and Andie McDowell have a snowball fight with some kids and things happen spontaneously and they fall down then gaze into each others eyes. Murray tries to recreate this the next day but it just doesn't work.

My only criticism of Unforgettable would be the fact that she says their species is forgotten after only a few hours. Well, surely that means everyone totally forgot her the next day?

We've never been big fans of the 'romance of the week' episodes. It goes all the way back to TNG.

Speaking of romances of the the week; It's hard to believe I have concerns about one of my top 5 faves, Counterpoint, however I can't get into Kate's head about wishing Kashyk should have been more explored as a reformed person for Janeway. (She of course, articulates her vision far better than I could)
He made no bones about imprisoning and probably killing children!
I thought she wanted Janeway to be a extreme focused on her mission, type? Mark Harlek was hot and all but...get a dildo, Janeway. Sheesh. Don't screw a sociopath.

I'll have some things to say about Counterpoint when we get there. There was much about it I liked...and some I didn't. Be interesting to see what Dave thinks about it.

Watched Demon. Started out interesting but then went strange. Silver Blood? Can't wait until he sees Course Oblivion.

One- 'What do the writers have against Harry and Tom? Didn't they almost suffocate in the last episode?' This is probably my favorite Seven episode.

The writer's were passive aggressive at that time. Wang tells the story: "If you (wang and Mcneil) continue on your eating ways, we'll have to rename the series Star Trek Voyager: Pigs in Space." To which both responded with "Bring it on. Oink, oink!"

I heard that story. :) It happens. You don't notice so much at the time because the seasons and episodes are spaced over time. It's a gradual adjustment but when you watch them in quick succession things like that literally jump out at you. The one that stood out to me the most was Frakes on TNG.

McNeil looked ok when they filmed Gravity the following season so I guess he tried to reign in his 'eating ways'. ;)

I just saw this episode today, and I loved it.

I started rewatching Voyager because I had fond memories of the show, but could not really remember why. I have thought of it as my 2nd favorite Star Trek (after The Next Generation) by a large margin.

While I have been rewatching Voyager, for the most part I have not been enjoying it like I thought. Something just felt weird about it to me.

Today I was reminded why I like this show so much, and I think a big part of it is Chakotay. He is my favorite character on this show. I particularly like these one-off romances for the character. I don't normally feel this way or talk about this, but it feels like a bit of fantasy to me. To be honest, I find Chakotay extremely attractive (appearance and personality), and really found myself sympathizing with Kellin. I could imagine meeting him and falling head over heels rather quickly like she did. I'd leave my life and world behind for him. Sorry this probably makes me sound silly, but I don't normally get mushy or turned on by shows or movies, but something about this episode really made me feel warm/turned on (especially the scene in his quarter's where she is telling him about their "last night"). I like the women he connects with as well, they are generally very intelligent and confident. He is very different than say William Riker or James Kirk.

But anyways, I like these episodes that really feel like they could be about a star ship travelling through unknown space. These aliens were very unique and gave us something new to think about, without being too contrived. I feel that my enthusiasm for Voyager has been reinvigorated.

Its odd but I really liked Chakotay the first time I watched Voyager. Now, not so much. Not really sure why. I don't hate him but I don't like him as much as I did back then.
