The Replimat's Purpose?

How ever it works out. I'm glad Quark stayed around.

Probably one of the best Ferengi Characters ever, especially because he develops his somewhat moral compass.

I never wrote all ferengi off as Greedy, heartless, etc. etc. (much like the Federation seemed to despite their principles) and DS9 proved me right.

Rom, Nog, Ishka, Zek, Brunt, Gaila, Pel, etc. etc.

All great additions.

The replicator issue has always seemed like a weird one to me.

There was a similar thing in T.N.G- A double of captain Picard comes into Ten Forward and orders drinks for everyone, saying that they were 'on him'.

Everyone seemed happy at that, but the question (in fandom) about drinks and food being replicated and "free" comes up-why would everyone be so happy about that announcement?, if the drinks were free and replicated?.

My guess is maybe Ten Forward is actual a store, operated by civilians who want credits, and therefore maybe it does cost something to get something from there...

My other guess is that the real currency is energy and programming. It takes energy to run those devices, and a programmer to put things in.

But even that theory can be picked apart....

I would liken starfleet officers to people who work for McDonald's. If you work for McDonald's you will be given free meals.

No, you won't. (Not in the US, anyway.)

Things might have changed in the 20+ years since I worked for McDonald's, but you got free food back then.
Working four hours or less entitled you to a small sandwich, small fries, and a small drink when you clocked out. If you worked four to six hours, you got a 15 minute break you could eat during. If you worked over six hours, you got a 20 minute break and upgraded to a "medium" sandwich.
