I don't want to get into a huge debate on whether or not the timeline was erased or if the new timeline exsits in a different reality. We have millions of those debates. I am personally going with the theory that keeps the PRime timeline intact, simply because I want to go with that theory. I'm really big on the idea on personal continuity which means you can add or subtract shows or books if you want.
What I don't understand though is why so many people don't seem to understand why some people might be upset of the Prime trekline being erased. They say you still have the dvd's and but wouldn't the knowledge that it is all going to be erased effect how you enjoy the dvd's? Would it be hard to care about the characters in these shows if you know it won't matter in the end because it will all be erased. Basically your making everything that has happened in the trek universe one huge lie. It would be like one of those episodes such as "Year of Hell" were the characters endure all these things but then a big reset button is pushed. Granted I think some fans are being stubborn in refusing to even accept the theory that we were dealing with a divergent timeline as oposed to a altered timline. The fact that writers even acknowldged this would be a issue is proof to me that didn't want to crap over evrything that came before which to me is yet another good reason to just roll with the idea that we now have two timelines. Still i do understand why people don;t like the idea of everything be erased and i'm not sure why some people don't see this as problem unless they simply didn't have any emotional investment in the characters of the Prime trekverse.
