In the 50th Anniversary Special there was a wall with a lot of photos of the Doctor's former companions inside the Vault. It's safe to say UNIT has some sort surveillance system to track down not only the Doctor himself but the people that are constantly seen with him as well.
Except this wasn't U.N.I.T. and they're not part of the U.N. anymore in the new series.

I had to go Subpar. it wasn't outright bad, but I just didn't care about it at all. A boring story with boring aliens. Its better then the writer's other episodes, but that's not saying much because it is very, very easy to be better then Kill the Moon and I consider the Zygon two parter to be in the top 3-4 worst NuWho stories.

This is slightly better then Extremis because at least it has a point and it actually happened, but if Extremis hadn't been a pointless "its a dream" story then I'd rate it higher then this one.

You know, this is a worse series so far then Series 9. It may not have had anything as bad as the Zygon two parter, but outside of the first two episodes its got nothing as good as Heaven Sent or even, say, the series 8 opening two part or the Me episodes. It has some better elements, like Bill and Nardole being fairly good characters especially compared to Clara, but the last five episodes of Series 10 are going to have to really succeed to beat Series 9 (although its beaten Series 8 pretty much by default in my opinion).

Given that they air during an election campaign, many episodes this series feel as if they ought to have "That was a party political broadcast." played at the end.

Not really given they were scheduled long before the general election was called.

WTF, Bill? You gave up humanity just so you could extend the life of a guy who has already been around for millenia? :cardie:

And why is every idiot with a bit of power jumping to give up humanity before they even know if the Doctor can fix things? What's the point of putting the Doctor in charge if you're not even going to let him try to save the day?

I really hate how BBCAmerica just STOPS the episode cold and goes straight into Class--no end credits, no nothing. It's really jarring, especially with this this episode.
I've been watching time-shifted and the one cool side effect of them doing this is I haven't seen any next time teasers this season so it's been interesting watching each episode blind. Can't remember the last time I had no idea sometimes what the plot of the next episode is.

Yeah..... I really liked how this season started, and now we're back to standard Moffat longplots. I could have done with this as two-parter, but three is pushing it.

Also, as @Snaploud pointed out, WTF Bill?? So far, she was a pretty clever companion, her own person. Really liking this guy, but not all googley eyed and in love with him. And all of sudden, she'll condemn the world for her love of this man? Hm.....

This. I hated the plot contrivances, such as setting the purse in the doorway and the dial combination instead of a keypad. Just too many frustrating things, like how the aliens seemed too overpowered with their abilities. Just ugh.
I figured that the reason for the combination was that because it's physical it becomes unhackable... I guess I also assumed that the thing with the handbag in the door and the glasses was either just something they put in to introduce the characters or the start of a subplot that got cut.

I think people are missing the point with Bill it isn't so much that she's googly eyed over the doctor, it's a huge inrush of guilt when she realises not only is he blind but he's blind because of her (or at least she'll see it that way).

She's an inexperienced person in a stressful situation feeling guilt because a man's about to die (and does she know/believe he's 2000 years old?).

And consider this, the Doctor foils the Monks' plan this time, but clearly they'll be back and who's gonna stop them if he's dead?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Bill's decision completely made sense, just pointing out there was some rationales behind her making it.

Her not realising he's blind really does knock some IQ points off her however!!

I considered your points about Bill's motivations, but it all just went so fast, it didn't feel real.

I'm not so well versed in the Doctor Who's lore. Could he regenerate after a similar explosion?

There are different types of love. There is romantic love, brotherly love, friendship love etc... Since Bill is into women, clearly she does not have romantic love for the Doctor. But she has a pure love of truly caring for him and not wanting him to die. That's why her consent was deemed pure.

Not sure why all the dislikes for this episode. The concept, of aliens who can predict when a planet will destroy itself and use that knowledge to get the planet to voluntarily surrender its sovereignty, is intriguing and was well executed.

If he wants his eyes back, he just needs to regenerate.

I'm guessing Bill didn't know that.

Also... He could just Take Missy's eyes.

Maybe they aren't part of the UN, but they still share intel... The "President of the World" thing seems to be a secret that both the UN and UNIT share, wouldn't be too far of a stretch to assume they share intel on the Doctor's Companions as well. In the previous episode even the Vatican implied they had some info on the Doctor. Nu-Who in general hints that all major Earth organizations have the same type of knowledge about him.

I was wondering if there are any, many 1st and second doctor stories set in the early 21st century where they should have made him President of the World, or he was president of the world, and they just forgot to tell him.... Ramon Salamander would have certainly taken advantage of the situation.

Ofcourse there are. I never said it was romantic love. ;) But even platonic, or some form of paternal love.... She's known the guy for a few weeks. ;) If this had happened after three years of companionship.....

So one hungover, incompetent biochemist is going to end humanity? The larger end-of-the-world plot really felt buried by the weakness of how this was all brought about. The concept of the Monks is fine, but the execution of everything felt sloppy. Since this is supposed to be some giant, 3-episode arc they really had some chances to bring back UNIT or Torchwood or something to give it a more urgent, epic scale, but instead it felt derivative.

I've enjoyed most of this season, but this week took a step back for me. Just my opinion...
