The Psychotronic Z Nation Thread

Unlike Negan who just likes to see things burn there's a more nuanced nastiness about Murphy's actions. There's shades of self-loathing, bitterness and betrayal along with ego which makes it interesting and in some ways perhaps worse.

I noticed that. I turned on Sciffy expecting their usual Twilight Zone holiday marathon, but there were Zombies instead of Zones.

We get bedazzled Z's this week in an off-kilter episode of Z Nation. Actually, plot wise we've all seen this one before but the dreamlike visuals were the highlight. You knew it was only a matter of time before it became a nightmare but before it happens we have surreal costumes and characters, an interesting cabin retreat with lots of flair and odd direction and music taking us on the ride with Doc. And though he knew better, once they pulled out the weed he was beyond hope. These side story diversions are OK but I really want to get back to the main course!

Debra Wilson from Mad TV looks mad different tattooed from head to toe with bald head and "gauge" ear plugs. And Catalina from My Name is Earl to boot. I have an aunt who kind of reminds me of the cat lady-ish scrapbooker.

"Peace out, bitches!"

I am still waiting for the seaplane to come into play. They mentioned it early in the season, and that they had enough fuel for one trip somewhere.

Don't tell me about a seaplane if you're not gonna use it.

Good grief, that was bizarre. :rommie: Those bedazzled Zombies were something else. I can't wait to see Addy's reaction when Doc shows up on his bike in his fluffy pink robe. But nothing ever goes right in the Zombie Apocalypse, so it's not surprising that this went from "Doc's Angels" to "The Doccy Horror Picture Show." At least he got one good night. And it must have been a really good night. I hope he can remember it.

Now if Citizen Z and Kaya can only get in touch with Warren.

I don't remember the seaplane being mentioned. What was that about?

That was a surprisingly bit of mature writing for an episode of Z Nation. Much more in the vein of Walking Dead than the usual Z Nation fair.

I haven't seen it yet, of course, since I usually watch it when I get home on Saturday afternoon. But I wanted to mention that Z Nation has officially been renewed for a fourth season. :bolian:

Interesting episode, after spending episodes with just Doc and Addy, the confrontation with Murphy is for the most part just between him and Warren. Neither side seemed willing to actually do the deed, Murphy just wanted to be left alone and Warren just wanted him to comply. I figured Lucy was going to play into the siege and she did but not in the way I thought but as the common ground needed to settle their differences.

Red and 5K came back!
I wonder if they're going to stick around. Warren looked awesome tonight, one badass sista. Addy sported a fringed leather jacket tonight and a dirt bike, they have fun with her looks, and encountered the zombie ball lol. Citizen Z finally met Operation Bitemark. Kaya using "Frenchy" to communicate was pretty hilarious and the production made/found a fantastic cheesy and creepy prop for it.

I have to admit that I didn't quite get what the woman on the winch was about, don't know if I missed something or not. Anyone care to elaborate what was going on there?

Honestly, the winch thing confused me, too. I think it was supposed to show us that Murphy's followers are genuinely devoted to each because they hung onto her rather than just letting go, but it was pretty awkward.

Red and 5K came back!
I know! Just when I had given up on that. And it looks like we finally have 10k back in the fold.

So, yeah, we had very little Addy and no Doc at all, and just a bit of Citizen Z and Kaya-- although a significant bit, since they're now pregnant. And that was a nice moment when Warren and Z met for the first time. A Zombie Apocalypse Internet meetup.

But most of it was the intense confrontation between Warren and Murphy and their differing ideas about how to save the world. Warren wants to eliminate the Z virus and restore things to the way they were and Murphy wants his brave new world of blends-- I think it's significant that he keeps referring to it as a world without fear. Deep down, Murphy is a very frightened person and his lust for control is more about keeping himself safe.

Also, his appearance is changing back to a more human look. I'm not sure where that's taking us.

Frenchy and the Zombie Ball were nice touches to remind us that this is still Z Nation despite the focus on the battle of wills between Warren and Murphy.

So we're coming up to the end of the season and we still haven't met "Charlie," the faceless man who was collecting scientists and bikini babes. From the way this episode ended, I'm guessing that Warren and her team will be teamed up against him as a common threat when the season ends. Hopefully, Addy and Doc will be reunited with the group by the final episode. And Lucy will probably reach beautiful, super-powered adulthood.

Yeah, security vs freedom, which is pertinent these days and as Murphy pointed out that they both had blood on their hands to see their visions through. It was nice to see The Asylum work a bit of that into their bonkers show.

It's been making me wonder what George Romero thinks of the show. He's been very critical of Walking Dead, because it lacks the social satire of his own movies-- he can't say that about Z Nation.

Oh god! I almost coughed up a lung trying to laugh so hard at Doc's big scene! :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

Loved 10k's cameo as well!

Same, lol. Doc manages to steal the show even with limited screen time. I liked the warm, unspoken reunion at the end.

Addy was sure put through the wringer in this one, Anastasia Baranova and the makeup department sold that well. Felt bad for that woman and kid she shafted, though.

Lucy sure can be a pain in the ass. She's going to look 25 before the Man is finished. The wig isn't always the most convincing but it's a good way to keep visual continuity with the character changes.

The Man was probably happy not to be wearing flip flops when he walked through the fire. And who knew Kevlar could be so stylish?

And yet another episode with nice visual moments, they're hitting a groove in that department.

Well, this was a groundbreaking episode. For the first time ever, Comcast On Demand did not list Harold Perrineaux as the star. Instead, they listed Anastasia Baranova. Poor Kellita Smith.

Yeah, Doc's big scene was absolutely hilarious. And I was somewhat disappointed that it was just a hallucination. That surely would have taken things to a new level. :rommie:

Poor Addy. The Man seems to be practically an unstoppable force-- getting hit by an SUV and grabbing on underneath is kind of superhuman-- but she just keeps on going like the energizer bunny. I suspect her relentless devotion to Lucy will be what wins the day in the end. Or at least it should. That is heroism of the highest order-- I think Lucy will register that talk about sacrifice with her next age jump. But I really think Doc should have taken the wheel there at the end.

The encounter with the woman and the kid was weird. Leaving the kid there with the gun was incredibly irresponsible, and certainly not something Addy would have done if she were not dazed and confused. But I have a feeling that we will see those two again and that the consequences will not be good.

The interactions between Lucy and The Man were just hilarious. He may be an unstoppable war machine, but even he is no match for an annoying child. :rommie:

Hmm, this is one of those cases where I think the journey was better than the destination. I think the siege of Murphytown was more compelling and maybe a better place for a last stand. I think maybe the next season renewal caused them to change whatever plans they may have originally had.

Of course, this being Z Nation they had to give us a literal cliffhanger. I wonder if this wasn't meant to be a parody of the infamous cliffhanger of The Walking Dead where here the fates of half the cast is in question. With a UFO (close enough) thrown in for good measure.

Grandpa Z was pretty fun, even though it wasn't expressed I like to think Lucy could bounce her "signal" off a bunch of zombie "cell towers" to reach him at such distance. I think Dean Winchester would approve of Addy's ride. The slo-mo bullet worked pretty well especially when it continued beyond its anticipated trajectory.

Somebody has got to get a gun back into 10K's hands soon.

Oh well, I'm a bit disappointed at the end but I have enjoyed the ride.

Hmm, I'll see it this afternoon, but it sounds like this will be the latest disappointing season finale from a good show-- there's been several of those lately.
