The Psychotronic Z Nation Thread

^^ She had a shoplifting thing a few years ago that she blamed on a quack doctor and his meds.

So we basically have a Doc solo story after having a 10k solo story. I wonder if they intend to give everyone their own episode this year-- which wouldn't leave much time for "Charlie."

This episode was funny-- Elvis was like a merged Bubba Ho-Tep and Black JFK-- and I'm sure there will be complaints about mocking the mentally ill. Of course, there were the required Elvis jokes. "Don't be cruel." Whack! And stoned 10k was pretty funny.

But Doc must have been stoned, too, not to be able to come up with a better plan. First of all, why not reinforce the one door that the Zombies were attacking? Why not climb out a window and distract the Zs away from the hospital? The Zombie Apocalypse is about five or six years old now-- how is it that the hospital managed to survive all this time and just happen to fall to the Zs just after they capture Doc? It was amusing and it's great to have the focus on Doc for a change, but this was easily the weakest episode of Z Nation since the show began.

Too bad we didn't get to see the spider zombies but a return to form with a solid story. Not only are we back with Warren and Co. but we get the return of The Man and Citizen Z. Murphytown has power now and that's been a really nice storyline. It's added a novel take and plot to just simply surviving the zombie apocalypse. It reminds me some of a fun pulp novel called Monster Island, well minus the African schoolgirl soldiers but I digress.

Plus, we got just enough Citizen Z to be a pleasant side plot. Kaya on the mic was cute.

I'm glad Addy found some more flattering clothes. Poor Doc is split again but at least he isn't alone.

There was an article on my Blastr app about all the reasons why Z Nation is better than Walking Dead and it made a lot of good points. I'll have to see if I can track down Monster Island. As for Z Nation, I'll watch it over breakfast today-- my car is in the car hospital, so I'm not going anywhere for a while.

Power steering for me-- and it was painful indeed.

Well, the gang was reunited, but it didn't last long. 10k has run off, but is it to rejoin Murphy or just in general panic? I admire Doc's loyalty and I have a feeling that there will be a showdown between Doc and Murphy eventually-- Doc really loves 10k and he's not happy about what Murphy did to him.

Looks like The Man pulled a Merle and escaped to return to "Charlie." Or maybe to make another attempt to kidnap Murphy. What was interesting here was the idea that they had their own "Murphy" who didn't make it. Have we ever had an inkling that there were others like Murphy out there in the world?

And is that really Lucy? Did The Man screw up, or has Murphy faked everyone out by keeping Lucy hiding in plain sight. Which means that Doc and Addie are on a wild goose chase.

Looks like Citizen Z is going live again. I really love Kaya (although I could live without Zombie Rap :rommie: ) and her uncle was pretty cool, too. I hope nothing happens to them.

Oh, of course, how could I forget? Looks like The Man is not as hyper-competent as he was portrayed.

This week gives us Z Nation's take on the US election. While there were some humorous moments I think I'm too electioned out right now for this to be as fun as it should be. I'm thinking this one was a bit of a budget saver which I'm hoping means the savings are going to make the Murphy showdown more epic. EDIT: I've read a couple of tweets from Z Nation staff and they indicate next week should be really good.

If they were going to go that route I think there was a missed opportunity to have Doc as more of a Bernie proxy or maybe Addy as Hillary. Does she still have that ugly pantsuit from the bad tooth episode? Instead we got two Trumps going after each other. I did like the wig on the challenger.

For me, the most amusing line was the one throwing shade at The Walking Dead and the dumpster. "Nobody could have survived that, right?"

Not sure if Gina and Tina getting "fridged" was coincidental or intentional. Someone has to die but I didn't know with all the Trumped up shenanigans if that wasn't some kind of statement. Probably not, I just didn't want to see them go, lol.

I loved that Sketchy's real name is not just Thurston Howell but Thurston Howell IV. One probably more for us old timers than the millenials.

No special Z types tonight unless head in the water filter counts.

And we learned how Addy keeps looking so fabulous in the Apocalypty times.

Looks like this was Addy's episode. First we had a 10K solo story, then a Doc story guest-starring 10k, now an Addy story guest-starring Doc. I guess they're giving everybody their moment to shine this year.

I agree that the election parody fell kind of flat. It was more a general indictment of politics and electioneering than our actual situation-- except maybe for how easily the townspeople were duped. Everybody voting for "the weed doctor" was funny, but unfortunately not reflective of real life (although, ironically, I early voted for both Bernie and legalized weed :rommie: ).

The main plot was pretty obvious. I knew the sickness was coming from the water, but the actual circumstances were kind of weird. How did that head get in the pump? How did nobody know? Or was it deliberate? Why did that woman commit suicide and leave a note? The whole episode wasn't really very well thought through.

Interesting episode this week, we finally get to the bottom of the new Escorpion mystery. I came late to Z Nation so the reveal didn't sink in as much as I think it would had I seen more of the early seasons. Regardless, everyone seemed to have their A-game on as far as acting is concerned which helped sell the character piece. If anything, I was reminded of stories that you might see on The Walking Dead and they carried it well.

The new guy they met tonight reminds me of someone but I'm not sure who. Maybe Jeff Bridges, maybe Sammy Hagar, or maybe a mix of the two?

The barbed wire electric water bucket trap was a pretty memorable set piece. And Hector! hmmmm

Wow. A lot happened in this episode. Poor Javier. That was a pretty ignoble fate for a decent guy. I was sure that Warren could bring him back around, but I didn't think she'd have to kill him to do it. Now she has her army, but at a terrible, and very unexpected, cost.

Hector, despite his change of heart, has done terrible things, and it was inevitable that he would have to pay for them. I just didn't expect to it to happen so soon or in this way. But it seems he may still have the chance to redeem himself. Has he been restored to life or is he a Z? A blend? Or something entirely new?

And Murphy sure blew off Citizen Z. CZ is clever, being able to ring up Murphy through the old-style phone, but it didn't do him any good and that avenue of communication was quickly cut off. We'll see if CZ and Kaya can now tap into, or override, Murphy's broadcasts. I'm betting they can.

Poor Warren. Hector warned her that going after Escorpion would change her more she could change him, and his words may prove prophetic.

This episode spent most of its time dealing with Doc, Addy and Lucy. Having to convince Lucy to go with them and gain her trust worked pretty well I thought to drive the episode along with the b-plot of Murphy and 10K. For a slower episode I thought it worked better than the insane asylum or Trump episode. It helps that Doc and Addy have a nice chemistry.

Doc's outfit is so quintessentially "Doc" with the overalls, bandanna, Chucks, and all. He's really grown on me as a favorite.

This episode should have had a Special Guest Star credit for Addy's Cleavage (not that I'm complaining).

The actress playing Lucy reminded me a lot of Millie Bobby Brown/Eleven of Stranger Things, she looked like she could be her younger sister. Though I guess that might be the last we see of her due to The Man.

Felt bad for the poor schmucks that got shanghaied to be her caretakers. Not that they were all that sympathetic in this episode other than knowing it wasn't all by their volition.

No specialized zombies but we got some fun kills involving a road flare and garden gnome.

Yeah, this was really Z Nation in top form. A bunch of Zombies dressed up as a child's playmates, a ruthless mercenary being tortured by the incessant chatter of said child, and the classic killing of Zombies by road flare and garden gnome. :rommie:

The Man being driven mad by Lucy's endless stream of comments, questions, and threats had me in stitches. His response of tying a bag over her head was a bit horrific-- it's hard to see anything like that happen to a little kid-- but it showed how strong the psychic connection is between her and Murphy. I'm a little dubious about them using the old trope of the hybrid who grows to adulthood in a matter of weeks and possesses super powers-- undoubtedly she will be a beautiful blue woman-- but we'll see where they take it.

I also noticed Addy's special guest cleavage and have no complaints. And I also love Doc's outfit, especially those groovy glasses. :mallory:

The non-Zombie savage woman who attacked Lucy was a bit too convenient, plot-wise. But she did get away unscathed, so maybe she is also foreshadowing for next week's episode, which looks to be quite surreal.

I'm not too happy about what's happening to 10k. I find it hard to have any sympathy at all for Murphy when he's capable of doing something like that to his friend. I hope he gets his comeuppance and 10k gets some satisfaction.

I would like 10k to start his count over with the beginning. Taking the shot that brings Murphy down, and just saying "one."

I wonder. I think they will go with a finale that ends in Murphy's redemption one way or another-- if he dies, it will probably be heroically.

He has been with us for a long time. For me, he's one of those characters you "love to hate", he's so good at being despicable. He probably merits a grand reckoning whatever form that ends up taking.

He's definitely the pivotal character, and he's always had that element of sympathy where you can see that there's a part of him that wants to do good-- but the way he treats 10k is just despicable. He didn't even treat Cassandra that badly.
