The Psychotronic Z Nation Thread

A by-the-numbers episode this week but we did get to see Sun Mei fleshed out a bit. I was a little worried about her since she hasn't been established enough to be as safe as the rest of the cast.

The woman playing the Doctor turned by Murphy does a nice job showing the disdain she feels. I never noticed the art on Addy's jacket before either, kinda cool.

I liked the main story. I always like to see how the Zombie Apocalypse effected specific people or specific areas in unique ways. The "going postal" theme was hilarious, but the explanation for the Zombies' interest in the mailman was surprisingly religious.

Doctor Sun has gone back to being more badass, which was a little disappointing, but luckily not too extreme. She did seem rather broken after getting the message that there were no survivors back on her ship. Maybe she's subject to mood swings. But I agree that it's good that she survived and is remaining with the group. I think both her and Hector add to the group dynamic.

And Citizen Z is heading back to Northern Light, not only with Kaya but her family. Now that they know the team is still alive-- Addy, at least-- they have motivation to get the base up and running again. I got a kick out of Kaya's jealous reaction to Z's first mention of Addy. :rommie:

This week brings bomb zombies and apocalypse dentistry. My grandmother removed at least one tooth that way from a co-worker who didn't want to go to the dentist for whatever reason. *shudder* Luckily us kids only had to deal with her popping out our loose baby teeth when the time came (no pliers thankfully).
Sorry, weird aside....

Possibly worse than the tooth Addy had to deal with a pretty ugly pantsuit.

And poor Dr. Merch has really suffered under Murphy's care. I felt pretty bad for her and her final fate.

And it looks like Merch's tribulations will continue

Did the former Escorpion get chewed on by those zombies who were wrestling with him? It looked like at least one of them got him.

They only got so far as to tear off his sleeve, so the tattoo could be revealed.
That big gold scorpion ring should've been a clue though. :)

^^ You can find a ring. A tattoo is a bit more damning. :rommie:

No sign of Citizen Z or his girlfriend this week, unfortunately, but 10K escaped the clutches of Murphy, thankfully. I didn't want that to go on too long. Meanwhile, Hector seems to have grown attached to Warren. And, in a sequence that was both funny and grotesque-- not to mention painful-- the new doctor and Doc, who is not a doc, had to extract Addie's tooth. Once again, Z Nation breaks new ground in being the first Zombie Apocalypse show to deal with a toothache. Good thing it wasn't a wisdom tooth.

Z Nation really manages to go where no Zombie Apocalypse has gone before. :rommie:

Whoa. That brings up some imagery. :rommie:

I am enjoying the fact that Murphy has gone from an ass that needed protecting to full out Bond villain of the apocalypse. I have to wonder if the season will end with his death.

Grandma was all of five feet, came to the US from France after WWII, worked in a factory, had 11 kids in a house with three and a half bedrooms and one bathroom, and had a penchant for extracting teeth. I'm a complete pus...er, wimp, by comparison.

I think the guy with the bikini babes is the Bond villain. Murphy, on some level, really wants to help people. The series may very well end with his death.

As in, "Behave or I'll pull your teeth out?" :rommie:

10K? More like a marathon with all that slow motion!

Quiet episode focusing just on 10K and Murphy. Some interesting character work for the two, especially Murphy as he tries to puzzle out what happened with Dr. Merch. Still I was missing the usual Z Nation insanity though next week looks to double down on that.

Props to Lisa Coronado for staying so damned still during all those scenes as a corpse.

I like that Murphy is genre savvy enough to know what 10K's escape portends.

yeah, how did she not jump when Murphy would grab her and yell in her face? I would have giggled when he was talking about her juicy brains.

There are probably many outtakes waiting for a DVD set to happen.

I haven't seen it yet, but I was hoping that the title implied that 10k's friend from the season premiere would turn up alive to save his butt. I take it this was not the case.

Yeah, I was excited there for a minute, until it became clear what was happening.

I had a feeling that Murphy would end up eating the doc's juicy brains to gain her knowledge. Shades of BrainDead. They're really developing Murphy into a complex character: He's got a genuine desire to help people as long as it is on terms that keep him absolutely safe by being in control-- but he's not in control of the progressive disease that's turning him into a walking dead man.

I was expecting Murphy to remember Warren had a doctor of her own who said she could develop a cure. He should be anxious for Warren to show up so he can try and take her doctor away.

Haven't seen BrainDead, I was thinking iZombie. I was trying to remember if they've shown this on Z Nation before but I take it that this is a novel element.

I forgot about iZombie, since I've never watched it. I was also trying to remember if they've used it on Z Nation before and I can't remember. I'll have to look it up.

Shocker Zombies, tonight, not the best specialty we've seen.

So Doc and 10K end up in the Z Nation take on One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. It was OK, saved somewhat depending on how much you like Doc, and I do. I didn't think they did a good job of really making the place seem threatened by what looked like six zombies. Maybe the crazed setting-of-the-week doesn't work as well without being able to engage the rest of the cast.

But we did get Elvis, a flaming rocket wheelchair and Lobotomized Bob was rather amusing.

If they ever bring back Red (and her Riding Hood) maybe she could note what big eyes 10K has. Don't know if it was the makeup or what but those bad boys looked huge in this episode.
