A man known as Six (Jim Caviezel) finds himself trapped in a bizarre place called the "The Village" led by a man known as Two (Ian McKellen) with no memory of how he arrived. As he explores his environment, he discovers that his fellow inhabitants are identified by number instead of name, have no memory of any prior existence, and are under constant surveillance. Not knowing whom to trust, Six is driven by the need to discover the truth behind The Village, the reason for his being there, and most importantly -- how he can escape.

I predict this show will be very polarizing. :D

And why are they showing it in two-hour chunks over three consecutive nights? :wtf: I'll have to DVR the whole thing just to stretch it out to a sane pace.

I didn't know they were doing that. Now I don't have to consider waiting for the DVD. I didn't want to see it stretched out over 5 weeks.

I too supect massive polarizing, which almost always happens with remakes.

I think it will be good, but it's not going to touch the original. In that respect, I think they will be different types of shows.

What are you mean stretched out? The miniseries starts Sunday and finishes on Tuesday.

^ Before I saw Temis' post, I thought they were going to air one episode a week over 5 weeks and I didn't want to see it that way, so I figured I'd wait for the DVD and watch it all at once. Now that I know they're airing all 6 epsidoes over 3 days, I'll just watch it on TV. That's close enough to watching it all at once.

Re: The Prisoner: "Arrival" and "Harmony" 11/15/09 - Grading & Discuss

No, one episode per week is how HBO did it with Band of Brothers. And probably how they'll do it with The Pacific. :(

Re: The Prisoner: "Arrival" and "Harmony" 11/15/09 - Grading & Discuss

Six episodes in the course of three days seems like a sweet deal to me. Here's hoping that it will be good. I've just watched two episodes of the original ("Arrival" and "The Chimes of Big Ben") and loved them both. We'll see if the new version holds a candle to the old...

Re: The Prisoner: "Arrival" and "Harmony" 11/15/09 - Grading & Discuss

I've read some reviews over at AICN (from various newspapers) and they pretty lambasted the remake...
I'll judge it when I see it.

I watch plenty of shows one hour per week - is that really an issue for people? Seems comfortable to me. For a show like Band of Brothers or Lost that is especially intense, you need time to decompress. I would hope The Prisoner is in that same mold.

I'll probably end up watching the whole thing over a week - one hour a day on average. Two would be too much, if this is as intense as I think it's going to be.

I wouldn't say it's a problem, it's just that for me, watching an entire show, or just a full season all at once on DVD is a much better experience. Others have said the same thing.

Usually I want to jump right into the next episode, especially with serialized shows with cliffhanger endings, and even if I did need time to digest what I saw, I wouldn't need a whole week. About the only thing I get out of watching weekly shows are the discussions.

So who's watching tonight?

Re: The Prisoner: "Arrival" and "Harmony" 11/15/09 - Grading & Discuss

I am. But I'm on the left coast, so three hours to go...

Re: The Prisoner: "Arrival" and "Harmony" 11/15/09 - Grading & Discuss

I'm glad I saw this Thread. I didn't know it was on tonight. Also, they're re-running them at ten, so I can record the whole thing.

Re: The Prisoner: "Arrival" and "Harmony" 11/15/09 - Grading & Discuss

Ugh, I hate those coming up next things, I'm switching to time-shifting like I should have in the first place so I can skip those damned things. Are people so ADD now you have to show them what happens in the next ten minutes before they watch the next ten minutes? Oh well, I didn't really need to see your ads anyway AMC.

Re: The Prisoner: "Arrival" and "Harmony" 11/15/09 - Grading & Discuss

I'm with Mr. Adventure; fortunately, my PC's in another room, so I can avoid those promos by walking in here.

One hour in, and the show's working for me so far. Better than I thought it would, actually.

No feel for the original.
Suckatude in the extreme.

Orange Alert!

Why are you quoting me?

Re: The Prisoner: "Arrival" and "Harmony" 11/15/09 - Grading & Discuss

P.I.N.O?

I rather liked it. Does any one know if McGoohan was supposed to play 93?

Re: The Prisoner: "Arrival" and "Harmony" 11/15/09 - Grading & Discuss

I'm not sure about this. It's definitely a different take on the concept..which is making this compelling to watch. The whole mystery of number6 trying to find the truth about how he got there and why is very true to the original, but the way they are going about this is really bizarre and unpredictable.

I'm enjoying this show, but it's definitely not the Prisoner I grew up with, nor is it trying to be.

It does look like 93 was an homage to McGoohan.
