THE "PIZZA TOPPING" THREAD --- 2011

Okay people, this is a serious question. What is your ideal pizza, and what toppings does it have? Please include pictures! Dammit folks I live in rural Japan and I'm building up my hunger for real pizza for when I arrive in New York city mid-December for the start of my winter long break.

My goto toppings: PEPPERONI and BLACK OLIVE:

I love a good thick crust pizza with the pepperoni and black olive combination. You could easily add:
  • Spinach
  • Garlic
  • Onions
  • Mushrooms
  • Red Peppers
  • Green Peppers
  • Crushed Pepper
  • Sausage
  • Ham
  • Grilled chicken breast
  • Extra cheese
  • Extra sauce
  • Little extra oven time

When I go to New York, however, I'm thinking Lombardi's will be my first stop.........

then later that night after enjoying the city and some Manhattans at my friend's pub just get some giant, think crust mega-pizza for my best bud and I to enjoy some beers, cigars, and classic TNG episodes on his big screen in Queens.

Yeah, I'm ready for my vacation home. Pizza oh god pizza :drool:
 
Only I had picture of the pizza I made a few months ago. Several slices were different each other, as some were ham & pizza, while others had beef, bacon and ham. And more. Next time, I make a pizza, I take another picture, as I want pizza.
 
Neapolitan-style crust (thin but not too thin), San Marzano tomatoes, mozzarella di bufala campana, Emilian sausage, Rossa di Tropea onion, porcini mushrooms, a drizzle of extra-virgin olive oil.
 
Hand-tossed, extra large, ozzarella and provel cheese, and a light but chunky tomato-based sauce with a hint of basil and fennel seed.



Then add:
  • Pepperoni
  • Italian sausage
  • Bacon
  • Grilled chicken
  • Black olives
  • Green peppers
  • Red onions
  • Sliced tomatoes
And then you simply get out of my way...

What happened to this world? When did people start going to from your old standard of mushrooms, pepperoni, onion, etc. to bizzaro world toppings?
 
Plain.

A good, plain cheese pizza is the foundation of good pizza. If a place cannot make a good plain pizza then it cannot make a good pizza. Toppings are great and all, but no where but the NY area have I been able to find a good plain pizza and so that's usually what I'll eat when I'm in the area.
 
I too like the Pepperoni with Black Olive. Though my go-to toppings of choice is the old standard of just Pepperoni or Pepperoni with Extra Cheese.
 
If anyone puts an olive anywhere near me, it's entirely possible I might kill them. I don't even like being in the same room as those hideous things.
 
Enchilada sauce, shredded jack/cheddar blend, taco meat, onions, black olives. Then when it comes out of the oven, more cheese, shredded lettuce, and diced tomatoes.


For a regular pizza, pepperoni, italian sausage, onions, bell peppers, extra cheese on a pan pizza.
 
Where ever I go, I usually try their version of the zen. One with everything. Deluxe. Supreme. Super deluxe/supreme. Proudly named after a member of the family. I'll eat them all.

I love spinach, mushrooms, eggplant, artichoke and about any other veggie that you can put on pizza. On a relatively thin crust, please.

No meat. No pineapple.

Actually just sliced Roma tomatoes, peppers, onions, back olives, mushrooms. Since I like to have chicken wings or boneless wings with my pizza...no meat on the pizza...I know that sounds strange. :p
