The Phantom Menace 3D Release

Once it's released in 3-D in 2015(?) it'll go back to being the highest-grossing STAR WARS film in the United States. TPM's reign will be fairly short-lived.

ANH will be making the most money with these 3D rereleases. EVERYBODY loves it. It actually has a chance at a billion too. Hope it makes it! :techman:

It isn't cheating when every studio does it. People actually pay to see it again, so the money should be counted.

As incredible as it is, I think EMPIRE will continue to remain the lowest-grossing of all six films. Right now its lifetime box office in the U.S. stands at about $291 million, which is thirty or forty million less than CLONES or JEDI. Even though most fans and critics think it's the best movie in the Saga I just don't see it raking in enough in its 3-D release to overtake one of its fellow episodes. That said, I plan on seeing it in 3-D in 2016 if all goes according to plan...I imagine 3-D conversion technology will only become more sophisticated and awesome in the next four years.

I love ESB as much as the next person, but it will always be overshadowed by ANH. ANH will always be the most famous SW movie and one most liked by the general public.

ESB is better in many ways, but it is too dark and not as fun as the original. It also feels the most incomplete out of all the movies.

The rerelease ESB special edition only made half of what ANH special edition did in 1997. I see that happening again with the 3D rereleases.

How I rank the films in overall quality:

1. Empire
2. Hope
3. Sith
4. Jedi
5. Phantom
6. Clones

How I rank the films based on "the Fun Factor" :) :

My list(s) would be pretty much the same as yours.

AOTC will always be my least favorite. TPM is really kiddy at times, but I prefer that to all the romantic scenes we had to endure in AOTC. :rommie:

AOTC isn't a bad movie.

It's just a fairly bad STAR WARS movie. I like to think of it as the NEMESIS or TFF of the Lucas film franchise. ;)

I really dislike the romance. A few cuts would have vastly improved the movie. Cut out the entire sound of music scene with Anakin and Padme in the field. Cut out that whole sand pick up line and just have Anakin touching Padme's back. Cut out that entire scene when they are in the Naboo palace talking politics. Cut out the entire beginning Anakin scene while they are infront the fireplace, just start the scene with Padme telling him they can't have a relationship.

I did like a few things about AOTC. I liked that this was the only movie that that really focused on Obi-Wan, the cool space battle in asteroid field, and we also got the new CGI Yoda.

I really like the whole assassination plot, but the romance plot drags it down so badly.

CLONES' best aspects were the assassination-plot investigation by Obi-Wan and the Battle of Geonosis at the end of the film. You're right about this being an Obi-Wan heavy movie, but at least one of them needed to be. Episode I is Qui-Gon's vehicle and Episode III focuses on Anakin's fall into darkness, so we needed at least one prequel to give Obi-Wan a lot to do and on his own terms, not as a Padawan apprentice following orders or as a heartbroken and dejected Master to a fallen Anakin. Ewan McGregor was the most fun part of the whole movie, even moreso than the CGI Yoda. In some respects this was McGregor's best film of the prequel trilogy.

Ewan McGregor was great. He always knocked it out of the park as Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan was my favorite character in the PT along with Qui-Gon and Palpatine.

My three favorite actors in the PT were Ian McDiarmid, Ewan and Christopher Lee. Natalie Portman would rank pretty high as well, but her frequently wooden portrayal of Padme(especially in AOTC) didn't score her a whole lot of brownie points.

I thought Natialie did an okay job as long as she wasn't doing any romantic scenes with Hayden. It was like she forgot how to be an actor whenever she was near him. I don't know what happened.

I agree. Bless Hayden's heart, but the guy managed to turn a future Oscar-winner for Best Actress into a wooden mannequin whenever he shared a scene with her. I hate to admit this, but their best scene together is the moment on Mustafar when he turns on Padme and attempts to Force-choke her. Before their final, tragic scenes together it was just so hard to believe that they were a couple. Hayden couldn't carry a romantic movie scene if he had Meryl Streep coaching him, and his ineptitude rubbed off on poor Natalie.

He did okay in romantic scenes with Jena Malone in Life As a House. I'll chalk that up to Christensen being an okay performer in need of a good director.

I never really thought they had a believable relationship. It would have been so much better if they had agreed to a secret relationship without getting married. The marriage felt too rushed.

Too bad Lucas probably thought parents would be upset if Padme wasn't married first before she got pregnant.

Okay...I will give him that. I've seen that film just twice and the last time was quite a long time ago, but I do recall that he turned in a more competent performance in that movie than he did in AOTC. He was also good in JUMPER, as I stated much earlier in this thread. But even in that film his interactions with his female co-star were kind of spastic and not entirely believable. Hayden just has a dominant and nagging style that probably requires a truly good and skilled director to overcome.

I never cared much about the romantic realtionship that his David character in Jumper had with the girl in that movie. It more of a fling than a true love thing.

The Anakin and Padme relationship probably would have worked better that way. I just hated how serious the whole thing was in AOTC.

Like you said, Lucas was bound by a pledge both to himself as well as the studio that he'd make films that were friendly to audiences from 9 to 99, so having Anakin knock up Padme with illegitimate twins and not marry her afterwards wasn't going to fly. It might have provided for a much darker and brooding storyline, but Lucas and McCallum never planned on doing anything along those lines. They were willing to go dark and violent, but only so far. SITH was the only film in the Saga to not receive a PG rating, but if some fans had their way it would have been much more graphic and carried an R. But that would have severely hurt the movie's box office and millions of kids and young teens wouldn't have been able to go see it. Everything about the prequels seemed to be a series of tradeoffs and compromises.

One of the reasons why I think it felt so rushed to me was that we already had the Han and Leia romance in the OT to compare it to. Over the entire OT which was apparently 4 years, Han and Leia met, argued alot, made out, and finally got together at the very end of ROTJ. They probably went on their first date some time after ROTJ. The thing took a looong time to develop.

Anakin and Padme got to know each other for like a few days in ATOC before they got married. Anakin should have never been a kid in the first place in TPM and they should have stayed in contact between TPM and AOTC.

AOTC is much better than TPM. No kid Anakin, much less Jar Jar, much less childish stuff, like stepping in crap and getting farted on, etc.
