That relationship worked because of Hayden's looks. If he looked more like "Superbad"-era Jonah Hill, Padme wasn't giving him the time of day.

Moral of the story seemed to be that if you are a good-looking guy, charm, intelligence, and a sense of humor are luxuries.

The same can be said for Padme. What does she have besides her looks?

I find Padme as interesting as a block of wood. Anakin could do way better.

What if Leia, Luke and Han Solo were ugly? You can repeat that argument for every movie ever made.

Not really. Good romances actually take the time to develop the relationship so the audience will root for them. They had things in common like believing in the Rebellion and caring about Luke. Leia and Han were done well since the couple has many fans even today.

What did Anakin and Padme had in common? Nothing really. She believes in a Republic and he desires a dictatorship. Padme only knows Obi-Wan as a professional relationship, Anakin can't stand his master half of the time. It didn't help that Anakin's pickup lines were so terrible.

It would have been so much more believable if they just had agreed to a sexual relationship instead of gettting married, but since these movies are suppose to be kids movies they HAD to get married first before getting it on.

The AOTC novel was actually better than the movie, since it actually showed WHY Padme might be into Anakin. The movie completely skipped this part. Terrible.

Mainly Padme had no social life because she had devoted all of it to public service since she was a child. Her family planted the idea in her head that it was time she thought of herself and got a guy. They also noticed Anakin was obviously attracted to her. Padme was also envious of her older sister because of her family and the cute girls she had.

Not great reasons, but at least it was something. Parts of it were in the deleted scenes on the AOTC dvd. Not sure why Lucas cut those parts, since those scenes were badly needed character development for Padme.

I agree. Unless you've seen the deleted scenes from AOTC you won't know who the hell some of those people walking in Padme's funeral procession were. They would just be a bunch of anonymous Naboo humans instead of Padme's parents and siblings. Lucas should have left those scenes with Padme's family in the final cut of the movie if for no other reason that she needed character development. He did something similar in the original film when he cut the Luke-Biggs footage in Anchorhead, footage that helped flesh out Luke's character and established the relationship between Luke and Biggs. Without it Biggs' death at the end of the film has far less emotional impact.

Jango Fett kicked ass. And the Battle of Geonosis was worth waiting for. And...

The presence of Padmé's family in these outtakes helps them greatly. They're better than almost all (if not all) of the other Padmé-Anakin scenes.

I actually really love parts of AotC. The scenes set on Kamino are awesome as is most of the beginning of the film and the end. Almost anything with Anakin and Padme, barring Shmi's final scene, is awful, though. Jake Lloyd was George C. Scott compared to Hayden Christensen in AotC.

I prefer reading the AOTC novel over seeing the movie these days. The characters are better developed and I don't have to listen to Hayden and Natalie's wooden dialogue. I find the romance to be more tolerable.

The ROTS novel by Matthew Stover was even more amazing. It was way better than the movie. I consider it one of the best movie novelizations ever. Every Star Wars fan should read it at least once.

I will say that the love song from AotC is beautiful. The prequels have amazing soundtracks and that theme, Across the Stars, is magnificent.

Anakin's Theme(TPM) and Across the Stars(AOTC) are two of the most beautiful pieces of music in the entire STAR WARS saga...period. John Williams hit them out of the ballpark even when the movie wasn't anything to bronze or coat in 24-karat gold.

IMO, the wedding in AOTC is the second best closing scene in all six movies, greatly helped by the fantastically beautiful music. There, I said it. The only better closing scene is the one in ANH.

I read it when the movie came out. Great book. I don't know if I'd say it's "way better" than the film itself, but it is probably one of the best STAR WARS novels ever put into print alongside DARK LORD RISING and SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE. A terrific read.

Oh, I liked ROTS. But the novel is even better because we got the chance to be inside the character's heads as everything happened. The book also fixed a few plotholes that were in the movie.

It helps that Matthew Stover is such a great writer. I love all of of his SW books.

No, let me rephrase that: DARK LORD: THE RISE OF DARTH VADER...the brilliant hardcover novel set in the aftermath of Episode III and Anakin's transformation into Darth Vader. Sorry about mangling the title. Hope that helps.

I love how Ewan Mcgregor was rocking in his chair around 0:50 in that video. As if he was thinking "staring at his green screen is fucking boring!"

Based on what a lot of actors say about filming with greenscreen, it is pretty damn boring. You either have to use your imagination and pretend you're looking at something amazing or interesting or you just stare at a blank screen until the director tells you otherwise. I imagine it can't be much fun for most actors.
